Probably pricey but a nice option for someone who doesn't want the hassle of building it themselves. I like picking my own components but screwdriver-dragging the heatsink clip gets old fast.

Not bad... very different from the traditional Alienware focus of full tower rigs. I too am interested in seeing Shuttle put out an nForce2 XPC! They're still too gimicky for me, but they could then be seriously considered for business use.

$1699 is definitely more than I'm willing to pay for a home theater PC, though it's only about a $200 markup over the parts and OS cost, fairly reasonable for assembly, installation and a custom case finish.

Just imagine, P4 3.06 with hyperthreading and DCDDR!! Throw in a ATI 9700Pro and you'd have the perfect LAN rig.
Probably too much heat for the little case though. Still if it can be done at a semi-reasonable price level I'll be first in line.

I've been waiting for XP Media Center Edition to come out so I could build a HTC. Of course, they then announce that you can't get it unless you buy a system. THe Alienware is almost exactly the system I was going to build (the Shuttle case), but with a few major differences:
Mine would have a Radeon AIW 9700 Pro, and a Sony DRU500A DVD burner. I would probably scale the processor back to a 2.4. As of today, my system would cost about $1700 to build. I could get the Alienware for $2000, and with it I get Media Center edition, the special remote, and obviously, a warranty. I don't want to buy their system and swap out the video card and DVD burner, since those 2 account for almost $800 of my system price. I will probably end up building my own...I was just kicking this back and forth today.
