Alienware - noise level?

I haven't bought a pre-built PC since '95 (4 systems ago) but this time I'm thinking of being lazy and letting someone else build a gaming rig for me. Alienware prices at the 2.8 / 3.0 GHz level are close to Dell's and despite being an anti-ricer I do like their metalic cases.

So, does anyone have an Alienware or checked one out at a friend's or store? What's the noise level like? Whisper quiet, moderate, or jet taking off?

It's pretty loud since there are several fans enclosed in the case. Remember, Alienware PC's are made for performance.

That's because Dell's new "gaming" PC's are overpriced as well....
True 🙂
I'll probably end up building it myself again, but with i865/i875 boards being bleeding edge (finicky about DDR brands, BIOS issues for several boards) it's tempting to buy a matched, tested and pre-assembled system.

Looking at the prices, they're both, the Dell and Alienware, overprices by a lot. Building it will be a LOT cheaper. Just make sure you check the mobo manufacturer's webpage for memory compatibility and you should be fine.

I read in maximum PC it overheats easily, and the CPU has to downclock all the time..

Very amusing considering the alienware isnt ment to be overclocked. When they ship it, the system is optomised for "peak" performance at a stable level of optimisation. None of the components are overclocked, and the manual with the system tells you how to manipulate different levels of preference. Overheats easily? i think maximum pc are talking a little bit of poo or there refering to the Area-51 M.
