yeah it's not like just figured that out, but I made myself a victim and ordered myself an alienware laptop just because I wanted to see for myself.

here are my thoughts.

1) it was "only" $100 more expensive than a DELL laptop with equivalent hardware specs.

2) it was almost a WHOLE INCH thinner than a DELL XPS gaming laptop

3) you pay extra bucks for extra colors, depending on demand??

4) zero advertisement, no aol junk, etc blah blah

5) you get an alienware binder with manual inside and all that junk

6) you get an... "agent number" that you use for customer support purposes, etc

7) you pay extra for a "respawn" (restore) DVD

for laptops, i think i'd take it over any other manufacturer, because the price-to-performance ratio is better than other manufacturers, and believe it or not, it's not very expensive among other gaming laptops (with the exception of smaller companies like iBuyPower), but when it comes to desktops it's a completely different story.

thanks for reading

Yeah, I almost bought a Dell Dimension 8400 for its parts. I had a $700 dollar off coupon that I was gonna use and it priced to about $1800, which after selling what I didn't need and buying what more I did, would end up about $2000. Not too shabby considering I get some software (a legit copy of Windows XP Media Center 2005), a system warranty, a $1000 processor, DDR2 RAM, a X800XT GPU, and some other amenities. I decided to cancel the order, however, and am currently ordering parts for a AMD64 system. It is priced at about $1600 and lets me choose EXACTLY what I want. I don't get any legit software, but the real reason I am putting it together is, well, to have the chance to put together a system myself. In any case, I can see where you're coming from. Sometimes the big companies aren't as bad as people make them out to be. Still, better deals can be had elsewhere (i.e. building your own), plus you know that the only possible cause of your computer screwing up is you if you put it together yourself, vs. Dell who has people probably barely qualified for the job on the assembly line sticking this here and that there without a real stake in it.

I don't know how I'm supposed to conclude this, so I'll just say, "Yes."
