Alienware currently has a 500.00 mail in rebate plus free shipping on Intel PCI Express systems and AMD systems. Normally Alienware is pretty overpriced, but the MIR makes the cost outstanding. Example:

Alienware case with 480w PSU
Abit AV8 motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
1GB Dual Channel DDR
ATI Radeon 9600XT
80GB SATA drive
CDRW / DVD combo
Floppy
XP Pro
1 year warranty

1,106 after rebate and free shipping instant rebate. No sales tax unless you are in Florida.

Price to build with parts from NewEgg is around 1,200 plus shipping

I'm always hesitant to tie up that much money in rebates....

But if you're willing to wait for your rebate, this is a pretty good deal! :):)

I've always liked Alienware systems, but they are always overpriced. Granted, they do use the best quality components for the most part.

Without the Intel motherboards, can those things be overclocked like them Falcons and Voodoos?

They charge you $29 extra for a recovery disc on a $5400 computer ...

Alienware® Respawn Recovery Kit - Recommended [+29 or $1/mo.]

What a jip, 1 year of 24/7 phone support ...an extra year is $200!

I have heard nothing but problems with alienware computers. I LAN a lot so I see a lot of new guys with alienware computers and other high end pre made computers. most say that trying to get a replacement on a part is near impossible.

plus you can build a computer with the same components OR BETTER for a fraction of their price and it will run better.

Alienware was good the first couple years they started out. But around 1997 they started to take a dive. their latest problem is with having over seas tech support, which you pat $200 for and the fact that they do jobs for bestbuy which makes you wonder, how custom these comps really are.

Id rather go with a falcon, voodoo or a hyper sonic pc ANY DAY. I hear gamepc is pretty good as well.

but SCREW Alienware!

This is a good deal. I have an Alienware laptop and its rock solid. I wouldn't touch an HP desktop with a 10 foot pole.

Still around $300 more than it would cost me to homebuild, but much, much more reasonable than $800 more :p

Why buy an Alienware laptop?

http://www.clevo.com.tw./ makes the Alienware laptops, Alineware just paints it and adds $100 to the price. I'd rather get a http://www.sagernotebook.com/ which is also a Clevo laptop, yet it cost a lot less than a Alienware. Dell also makes some kick ass gaming laptops that beat the Alienware. A low cost budget gaming laptop would be the Acer at newegg with a 1.5M, 512MB, 9700pro, dvd/rw and more... for $1400.

If you buy an Alienware, you are just buying the brand. Alienware builds computers, they dont design the chips and hardware. Well... SLI in one way or another I guess.

Actually we have tech support here at Headquarters in Florida.

We have different ways to work with part replacements where the customer can send in the defective part first and we send them the replacement part.

We also have the method where we can place a "hold", not a charge, on a Credit Card and in this manner, the customer receives the part before they have to send in the defective part.

Alienware did have dealings with Best buy in the past.
