Aliens vs Predator for $9.99 at Steam - Worth the purchase?

The multiplayer was atrocious. The single player was interesting, but the alien and predator scenarios were too short, and parts of it just feel off (the slow motion facehuggers, for instance).

That said, it is probably worth $10.

The singleplayer is consolised and has lost the atmosphere of the original AvP and AvP2.

For $9.99 it'd be good to pick up but for £25 ($37.50) which I paid via Steam pre-order, I was disappointed.

There were a number of reasons. Matches were only 5 minutes or so, and finding a match you actually wanted to play with their awful matchmaking system could take 10, assuming you got connected in a reasonable amount of time. And it kicked everyone out after every match so you had to go through the matchmaking process every freaking round.

Then you get into the actual game portion of it, and discovered that both the alien and the predator have instant death from behind grapple attacks - just get behind them, press grapple with it's oh-so-very-forgiving activation zone, instant kill. 2/3 of all players had this, and they were the classes with cloaking and/or superior movement. The whole thing degenerated into sneaking behind other players like some kind of demented alien anal orgy. Might have well have called it probematch.

Excellent summary of the AvP multiplayer experience.

It's still probably worth $9.99, though. There are two coop maps where you and up to three other Marines take on a horde of Aliens, but the maps seemed very small and limited. There was a map pack released that included two more coop maps, but it was $7.99, so I passed that one up.
