I'm just a fan of the 4 Alien flicks. Not of AvP 1 & 2. Those just didn't work.

Alien is a classic slasher flick.

Aliens was just epic.

Alien 3 went into a different direction as it couldn't out do Aliens and made a movie on Ripley going into hell on a dark journey facing her demons one last time and trying to save humanity or the universe from the thing that fucked her life. You should only watch the Special Edition as it's as close to the director's vision as Fox kept stepping in and demanding changes.

Alien Resurrection was popcorn, comic booky fun.

AvP 1 & 2 failed...........The story in the AvP2 video game was great.....Why did these movies fail? They took place in the present & on Earth. As well as ripped things from what made the Alien & Predator flicks good and weakened them.

After Aliens though no sequel could live up to it. At least Alien 3 & 4 went in a different direction to not copy Aliens.

As far as the species goes. I always considered them a bio weapon most likely created by the Space Jockeys in the first flick. Why? Well Aliens took place 57 years later and no other sign of the species was found except on the ship on LV-426. Alien Resurrection was 200 years later and again no species found. I just don't think the way the species work that they could live on there own home planet. They are a virus, a parasite that just consumes everything so they can populate and consume all other being. So if no one was able to get off a planet full of Aliens. Then they would just face hug everyone and the Aliens would die off from lack of other species eat or facehug. As in Alien 3 we see that the species does eat.

On face huggers....There is face huggers that lay warrior Aliens and a queen face hugger that lays two Aliens. A queen and a warrior to protect the Queen and help build the nest.

As for Aliens. There is no breeding. That's just bad writing in Alien Resurrection "It's a Queen, she'll breed, you'll die" -#8. Since in Resurrection they cloned Ripley and got just a Queen. What is she gonna breed with?

To me Ripley knew the last Alien was with her and the queen inside her on Fiorina 'Fury' 161 and that the only way to ensure it didn't go on was to sacrifice her self at the end.

As they destroyed LV-426 in Aliens. Plus taking 200 years after Alien 3 to get more Aliens was a pretty good job by Ripley.

Anyways I'll post more thoughts on the Alien saga later.

What's your view?

Pretty similar to yours.

I thought Alien 3 was pretty bad the first time I saw it, but that was the theatrical trailer. When I saw the special edition, my opinion of it changed dramatically. I'll definitely be getting the quadrilogy on Blu-ray eventually.

I saw AvP2 for the first time about two months ago. I was not impressed.

I'd say something like this:
Aliens>Alien>Predator>Alien3>Alien Resurrection>Predator 2>AvP1>AvP2

Only saw Alien and Aliens of the original series (very good and awesome), AvP 1 was garbage, can't believe I watched it.

The AvP 2 game was scary as hell as a marine. Both AvP 1 and 2 were good, though I didn't get around to finishing either.

AvP 1 video game had better multiplayer IMO. However the sequel to the video game had a better single player story.

Alien - AWESOME
Aliens - Tough to say better or worse than the original. Both are classics
Alien 3 - Yup, going downhill
Alien Resurrection - Ya, not to pleased. Horrible movie really.

AVP 1 - Total garbage
AVP 2 - 10 times better than AVP 1. Surprisingly, I thought it wasn't bad. I'd say it's on par with the Doom movie. If you leave your mind at the door, it's not a half bad movie. Truth is, pretty close to Aliens Resurrection

Having said this,l I'll rank them as follows, which is obvious from the above (I'll do a relative ranking from 10 to 0):
10.0) Alien
9.9) Aliens
7.0) Alien 3
4.0) Alein Resurrection
3.9) AVP 2
0.0) AVP1

That gives you an idea of how good they are relative to each other in my view
Even the bad movies are worth while if they are free on TV. I think I've seen AVP-1 on TV already.

EDIT: Since Predator was mentioned by someone:
9.1) Predator 1
7.5) Predator 2

Loved 1 and 2. 3 was ok, didn't so much mind the direction it went in just thought it was lacking something. 4 was horrible. I was really surprised to find out that Joss Whedon wrote it.

The AvP stuff is better left unsaid...

Well if you think Alien Ressurection is a stinker........It's not as bad as this comic: Aliens versus Predator versus The Terminator......

Yeah: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A..._versus_The_Terminator

I don't know aside from some stupid dialog.....Resurrection was fun fluff. Had some some dark humor. It was a weird film. We don't know much about the Aliens for them to be cross DNAing them with Humans.

It was odd.....The chest burster to dudes head was messed up. I think if the setting was bigger and Ripley had more to do and showed off her Alien abilities more then it may have been better......

Again it was okay. The visuals were nice though. LOL. The newborn was.........Okay? The film was in a rush to much to really focus on anything. It's like here is the new born, semi-Human Alien.....Now let's suck it threw a small hole in space...........................O-kay...... I mean yeah it's the weakest of the films. However.....It had some nice action scenes.... It's a popcorn flick.

Josh Whedon claims the script was changed sum but his original idea of the new born was worse! From IMDB: Joss Whedon originally scripted the Newborn creature as a four-legged, eyeless, bone-white creature with red veins running along the sides of its head. It had an inner jaw, similar to the all the other aliens. It also had a pair of pincers on the sides of his head. These pincers were used to hold its prey still as it drained the prey of blood with its inner jaw. The creature was also larger, nearly the size of the queen alien. In later script revisions, the creature was changed into a "more believable" hybrid of human and alien. More here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118583/trivia

I mean at least Alien 3 closed the series. Made it a trilogy. Then they came up with this cloning shit as cloning was a huge topic around the time when the movie came out...... I do have to pick on Alien 3 for placing the egg above the sleep chambers! I mean they would have checked that ship from top to bottom. But it's best not to think about it to hard.

Absolutely right. It's the only game that has ever made me scream at the monitor in fright.

Alien 3 could have been a fantastic film on par with the first two if the studio hadn't meddled at every turn. Unfortunately it was Fincher's first feature film and he didn't have the stature to stand up to Fox.

2 > 4 > 1 > 3, in that order. Johner is my favorite character of all time.

It wasnt the studio that fucked it up, it was Sigourny Weaver.
She jumped in and out multiple times and each time the script had to be rewritten to include or disclude her.
Then she insisted on creative control and several more rotten scripts were written.

Just a note: Bill Paxton the only man to be killed by an Alien, a Predator, and a Terminator.

Indeed!
I had not thought of that. Now if he could get killed by Robocop he would have the balance of the Universe.

I heard they might wanna remake it, maybe ol Bill should start talking to his agent right now.

If that happened it would be 'Game Over Man'. ;)
