Not sure what the OP is talking about. Another site tested this game, 290X is beating both the 780Ti and 970 at 2560x1600, 280X is faster than 770, 7970 is as fast as a 680 and 270X is as fast as a 760. It's also very well optimized as at 1080P, a 280X is getting over 80 fps and 290X gets over 100 fps!

6970 is a match for the 580 while 5870 is right there with the 580.

It's a very brand agnostic game - props to the developer since they have managed to both scale the game across new generations of GPUs and yet it runs flawlessly on both AMD and NV hardware.

I have to agree, but...

Its AMD gaming evolved title... It's reasonable people are suspicious after seeing how nv sponsored titles perform on competitors hardware.

I'm seeing two companies performing well on the tests.

Yup.

Absolutely fantastic programming and optimization, the game runs very well on mid-range hardware for how good it looks.

Creative Assembly, showing how a real PC game is done. Ubisoft should pay attention.

No offense but it's a corridor fps on rails...
You know... like the exact opposite of an open world free roamer.

Also there is a game-braking memory leak. Most likely due to AMD driver

Optimized for Radeon 😡

Love Alien and want a new game to play but the reviews on this are just bleak. Normally I don't play a game based on reviews but these are real bad.

The game is actually good as well whereas Ubisoft is pushing total garbage these days. Watch Dogs was a disaster that is still broken and now they are trying to push around the notion that 30fps is an acceptable place to lock the frame rates in games. It's game over for them as a decent developer.

Have you actually played the game? It's a survival horror title at it's core. I would certainly not call it an FPS.

And, while it's no Skyrim, it's certainly not a "corridor on rails" either. Also, you're talking about open-world games as if they're somehow inherently better than linear ones.

I know this is kinda OT, but I wish some people would stop recognizing open-world maps as some sort of objectively superior evolution of gaming, and not merely a design choice. I have yet to play an open-world game that is more interesting and engaging than a linear, more narrative driven one. But that is my opinion.

No, you are right.

But I wish people would stop comparing fps and the level of detail in corridor fps and open-world games.
Or at least appreciate the scale difference.

Yes of course Witcher 2 can look awesome when it generally renders 10m around me.
It's still a great looking game on its own, but try doing the same(level of details) with thousands of live entities like in STALKER or on ARMA 3 physical scale.

Ah. Fair enough.

We are not debating its graphics or how fun the game is. The point is most if not all GE titles run well on both AMD and NV hardware, sometimes even slightly faster on NV hardware. However, most GW titles run like garbage on AMD hardware. You'll be hard pressed to find a recent GW game that was well optimized across AMD and NV -- that's the difference. Ironically a ton of GW titles are coming out from Ubisoft and they are a broken stuttering mess - Far Cry 3 (CF/SLI/even single GPU), Watch Dogs, pretty much every AC title (AC Black Flag wasn't too bad). The games where NV's cards tend to fall flat on their face are not GE titles, but games NV has apparently never heard. Conversely, in the last 2 years most games where AMD cards tend to perform poorly are those that are related to NV's GW code/NV's proprietary features.

I can agree that most GE titles run well on all hw.
But that often happens only after some effort on Nvidia driver team part.
Which is perfectly fine imho.

OTOH I am not sure that AMD can dedicate similar amount of resources to TWIMTBP titles.
That could be part of an answer.

Most game like Dragon Age 2? Or Tomb Raider? Or Sleeping Dogs? Sniper Elite v2? Dirt: Showdown? Or unoptimized games like Ryse from a technology partner?
Yeah they run very well on nVidia hardware from the start...

Fracry 3 was a Gaming Evolved game. :sneaky:
GW titles run as good as possible on AMD hardware. If they dont want to optimize - bad for their customer. GE titles only run good on nVidia when AMD partners give them a earlier version for optimizing like Alien:Isolation. Ryse on the other hand runs like crap on nVidia hardware. And this comes from a company which is a partner of AMD!

1. Ryse is not GE

2. Here's what the principal rendering engineer of Crytek's Frankfurt studio has to say about Ryse's performance:

DSOGaming: Crysis 3 was nominated as our most optimized PC title in 2013. Will the PC version of Ryse: Son of Rome be up to the standards set by your previous game, and can we expect even more PC graphical options to tweak/adjust this time around?

Nicolas Schulz: To achieve the quality level that we desired on the Xbox One, we had to continue optimizing the engine after shipping Crysis 3. Techniques like SSDO or Realtime Local Reflections are a fundamental part of the Ryse rendering pipeline and we had to make them efficient enough to run well on lower spec hardware. We are making heavy use of some DX11 features like Compute Shaders, which however, perform better on some hardware architectures than others, so there will be some noticeable performance gaps between different desktop GPUs. Regarding the available custom graphics options, they are similar to what we had in Crysis 3.

Pretty cool that it is a GE title and runs this well all around while appearing to have good graphics. It would be nice if that was always the case when a GPU maker sponsors a game.

Crytek is advertising AMD hardware on youtube. :sneaky:

And? They optimized Ryse for AMD hardware. GW titles are optimized for nVidia.
They didn't care for nVidia users. So a company who is advertising AMD hardware released a AMD optimized console port.

No difference to Ubisoft.

Ryse is a DX11 game, and uses only DX11 features. It's not Crytek's fault that Nvidia GPUs are garbage at leveraging compute alongside a graphics context.

Do you want AMD to license GCN to Nvidia or something? :sneaky:

Oh, let me put this straight:
Watch Dogs is a DX11 game, and uses only DX11 features. It's not Ubisoft's fault that AMD GPUs are garbage at leveraging compute alongside graphics context.

Do you want nVidia to license Kepler/Maxwell/whatever to AMD or something?

Is it not funny that Alien:Isolation runs better on nVidia hardware in comparision to Ryse with all these AMD Compute features like HDAO+, particle simulation and co? :sneaky:
And the new middle earth title which runs great on AMD hardware?!

So what are you saying? Spell it out for me, because I'm not sure I get your point.

Ryse isn't sponsored by AMD. What does AMD have to do with Ryse? Why is it AMD's fault that Nvidia's performance sucks in Ryse?

Crytek is sponsored by AMD. Heck they are advertising AMD hardware.
Ryse doesnt need the AMD GE logo to be optimized only for AMD hardware.
I know that Ryse is a money grab 1:1 console port but this game doesnt have one single code line optimized for nVidia. nVidia has even an Game Ready driver for Evil Within...

So it is right clear that neither Crytek nor AMD were interested in optimizing this game for nVidia hardware.

poor nvidia

are you ok nvidia? nvidia post if you're ok

your fan is looking for conspiracies just because of 1 game's bad performance. are you ok nvidia? please respond nvidia

do you need help nvidia

Explains why it runs like crap on nv hardware.

Alien: Isolation runs great on everything. I hope it succeeds and will rise the bar for next alien games.
