Alien Isolation -- AMD/Nvidia Performance Comparison

looks normal to me...

1600p and 4K results hierarchy isn't much different

maybe you're going by the CPU test results (the ones where the CPU tests done with the 295X2 don't actually match up to the GPU test results while the CPU tests done with 780Ti SLI results do match up...), and isn't enough evidence to conclude that AMD drivers on the whole are poor for the game, but more likely there's some Crossfire issues the cropped up during the CPU tests

Interesting:

http://gamegpu.ru/action-/-fps-/-tps/alien-isolation-test-gpu.html

Nvidia drivers consistently give (way) higher FPS. Not that it really matters gameplay wise, but still.

Completely irrelevant for two reasons. 1) The game isn't out yet. Next revision of drivers from AMD will likely address; Though they'll likely be betas. And 2) At 1080p and VHQ settings, you have to drop down to almost a Radeon 6870 for it to become close to unplayable. Thats a mid range cage launched in October 2010.

What? 😕

Are you talking about the CPU results (which are an avg result of many CPU's so we don't know if there was an outlier result that caused it)? Because the results in the GPU limited tests look fine. Especially, as is typical, at higher resolutions where the GPU grunt is actually needed (somewhat).

Love the thread title though. 🙄

Good link, but thread title is misleading.

Great game, worth digging into some player feedback and reviews if this has been on your radar.

Game runs great on my rig, so not super demanding. I pretty much maxxed and dashed into the game. The game atmosphere is what I as a gamer, really love to find in games.

You are friggen there in this game.

Looks like this and Shadows of Mordor are pretty good deliveries. If buying make sure to check greenmangaming for discount.

Game looks pretty bad *ss. I look forward to eventually playing it. It seems to run good on just about everything so hopefully it sells well.

GameGPU.ru usually does different CPU and GPU tests (they usually choose a CPU limited scene for CPU tests), and here you see that the normal GPU tests were done with a 4.6GHz 5960X while the CPU tests were done with stock CPUs.

Anyway, what the CPU benches show is just Nvidia's drivers doing a better job with CPU overhead. This is what started happening after the 337.50 drivers launched. NV suddenly performed better than AMD's mantle in star swarm, BF4 MP performance was up by a huge amount etc.

gamegpu has multiple other examples of the same phenomenon:

plants vs. zombies:

basically tl;dr is that after the 337.50 drivers nvidia cards have done much better than AMD ones in CPu bound situations when the game is running DX11. Mantle changes the situation a bit and usually beats NV's DX11 implementation but even for that there are exceptions, such as the mantle bench Star Swarm. And the 337.50 drivers doing their job apparently is showing in Alien Isolation as well. In CPU bound situations that is.

Oh and i like how AMD is bragging about their "performance":
Now that you’ve seen how AMD and The Creative Assembly collaborated to implement a host of AMD Radeon™ graphics-optimized effects in this stellar new game engine, let’s see how it performs! We’ll let the charts speak for themselves—AMD dominates! - See more at: http://community.amd.com/community/...ch-fear--alien-isolation#sthash.e74JXifU.dpuf

But if nVidia dominates in a nVidia game - ohje... :'(

Yes, AMD will market their products, that's not abnormal for a company to do. What specifically are you talking about? Given the gamegpu.ru benches at 4k, AMD's chart above very well may be accurate with 2xSMAA.

Yet another new game that my nearly three year old 7970 and awful FX CPU will run flawlessly. Carry on.

Okay cool because I was "very worried" my FX 8350/R9 280x was not going to run these new games LMAO.

It's nice to see some good competition to keep the prices down. Not sure why the usual suspects insist on making every AMD thread a bashing thread. Getting pretty old!

Few tweaks and a benchmark

1. disable Intro-Sequences:

Steam\SteamApps\common\Alien Isolation\DATA\UI\MOVIES
AMD_IDENT.USM
CA_IDENT.USM
FOX_IDENT.USM

rename/move/delete

2. more fluid movement/control:

turn Ingame-Vsync off, and use the CP to force it. Also change Prerendered Frames here to 1

3. how to understand the FoV-slider:

move the slider to the left for higher values/results
it is vertical FoV, to calculate normal Fov use this link:
http://www.rjdown.co.uk/projects/bfb...calculator.php

4. sharper Textures:
Ingame-AF to bilinear and force 16xHQ through your CP.

I get 86fps average and 104fps max with the following settings, specs in sig.

Engine Settings
Graphics
Stereo Mode=Off
Depth of Field=On
Level of Detail=Ultra
Texture Filtering=Bilinear (Forced 16xHQ in control panel)
Full Screen=FullScreen
Deep Colour (30bpp)=On
FullScreen Resolution 30bpp=1920x1080
FullScreen Resolution 24bpp=1920x1080
Windowed Resolution=1920x1200
Vertical Sync=Off (Forced on in control panel)
Particles=Ultra
ShadowMapResolution=2048
ShadowMapping=Ultra
MotionBlur=On
ChromaticAberrations=On
FilmGrainIntensity=1.0
Planar Reflections=On
Screen Space Ambient Occlusion=HDAO
Streaming Texture Heap Size=Default
Streaming Model Heap Size=Default
AntiAliasing=SMAA T2x
Field Of View=55
Volumetric Lighting=On
Multithreaded Shadow Rendering=Off
Audio
SFX Volume=10
Music Volume=10
Speaker Mode=Surround
Audio Language=System

btw the vsync tweak made a huge difference, the controls were sluggish as all hell before changing that.

That feel when you're so biased that you can't read graphs correctly. This is one of the most even games I've seen. I see no advantage on either side at all.

Both sides appear to handle this game very well at each respective resolution and tier of GPU. Been waiting for this game.

Completely irrelevant for two reasons. 1) The game isn't out yet.

To be fair, the game just released on Steam yesterday. I received and activated my code for it, I just didn't feel like downloading 24GB (if I remember from the Steam installation dialogue) yesterday to start playing it.

Acceptable performance even on the older cards in the test. Does anyone know if it'll run on a DX10/10.1 GPU?

Steam only says DX-11

This is game of the year for me right now. It's so, so good. Great graphics, great performance, few/no bugs, legit scary as hell (omfg).

not looking so good in reviews. I am not a fan of having to repeat sections over and over. it does not take much for me to rage quit and this game looks like the kind that would cause that to happen. lol

I wonder what its like on the easy setting...
