Screw that, it wants me to get Microsoft Virtual Machine instead of the more stable and secure Java VM.

Downloading... However I already have a paid version of Alibre Design.... I thought this was supposed to be a new software X-CAD :confused:

Just loaded it up. I was disappointed that it listed MS JavaVM as a requirement, but I just forgot about it installing it (no way would I have it otherwise) and fired it up on accident and it seems to be working ok with Sun's Java 1.5.


Note that there is a bar of text-ads displayed. It doesn't bother me at all, it's pretty cool software for free. Maybe if I was an ME I'd have more use for it, but something to play around with when I have free time.

first impressions:

not as intuitive as Inventor. This is probably because I know how to use inventor and I don't know how to use this yet.

3d sketch looks promising. Haven't really explored it yet, though.

the ad bar isn't intrusive, I can live with that. Interface looks nice.

Between this and inventor I still haven't decided (don't know this well enough, yet). It being free is a big plus, though.
