Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Shuts Down Heckler Who Called GOP Ex-Lawmaker A 'Moron'

JEDIYoda

Lifer
It does not matter what anybody says about AOC -- she has proven herself to be a class act !!
Where as Donald Trump has told his people at his rallies to stamp out heckler.....hmmm
I will make a prediction that has me going out on a limb but AOC might be the savior of the Democratic party and if we don`t have a woman president by the time she is old enough don`t be surprised!

I know I will get you all who think she is crazy and that her views on taxes and medical care and education and climate change are just absurd but let me ask you this -- If Trump get elected again what choices are there to take back our country for all people not just Democrats but Republicans and Independents??
I would bet that if she is still a Representative that her people will push for this to happen and by that time we all might be fed up enough that a woman like AOC might look like a very good choice!
Just my opinion!

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) stood up for a Republican rival on Friday after he was heckled by an audience member at MSNBC’s town hall on her signature policy proposal, the Green New Deal.

A heckler called former Rep. Bob Inglis (R-S.C.) a “moron” after he said it would be impossible to pass the resolution to obtain carbon neutrality in the U.S. in a single Congress “with the number of committee references that you would have in the course of that.”

Inglis also suggested progressives such as Ocasio-Cortez focus solely on climate change now and address other issues like basic income at a later date.

“Make the changes now, you moron,” shouted one man from the audience.

Ocasio-Cortez immediately fired back at the heckler - “Hey, hey, hey, hey that’s unacceptable,” she said.“And that’s the difference between me and Trump,” she added to Inglis.

Bob Ingalis responded via twitter --
It was a meaningful moment and good of @AOC. If we focus on climate change, there's an #EcoRight that can balance the Environmental Left. The high road leads to solutions. The show airs tonight at 8:00 EDT

"I know I will get you all who think she is crazy and that her views on taxes and medical care and education and climate change are just absurd"--- Bingo!!!

Maybe by the time she is old enough to run for President, she will moderate her views, but right now, they *are* bat-shit crazy. The only way to be carbon neutral in 10 years is to kill half the population, and force the rest to become vegans and trade in their cars for bicycles. Of course, we wont need cars to drive to work, because she is going to give us a guaranteed annual income. Where that money is coming from, she hasnt addressed yet.

Edit: I will say that I respect what she did in this instance, and I dont really know enough to say what kind of person she is. I am only talking about her "Green Initiative" in the above post.

What a brilliant idea. Full of stuff she hasn't even said or advocated for.

All that does is it makes me and others more likely to vote for her because of the people who are batshit scared of her.. ala Trump just because.

A guaranteed job with family sustaining wage and going carbon neutral in 10 years most certainly are part of her proposal. As for the rest, you must have checked you sense of humor at the door.

So what do you do if in 12 years things have changed to the point where we cannot live on this planet? I am not saying this will happen, but everybody laughs and downplays what she is saying! Yet all these other people are afraid to do anything to take our world back from those who only think of money and profit!
Most Republicans are afraid of her and they show it everyday by attempting to write her off as being cookoo or stupid otr they attack the fact the she is young and a freshman Representative......I seriously would be careful, those people do have reason to fear her. She is IMO the future of the Democratic party!

After having lived through several decades of conservative shit that has only become crazier as the years pass, I'll gladly take AOC's kind of crazy as a start to counter the insanity on the right. Like others have said here, conservative attacks brought her to my attention. The right is working overtime to completely discredit her among their base because they know that her ideas are the answer to the poison that they spread among their supporters. The last thing Republicans need are the women among them listening to the ideas of a Democrat that may some day get them to vote for one. Hell, the Republicans even went after AOC for DANCING. I mean, holy shit... talk about fucking ridiculous!

Why are Republicans focusing so much ire and hate at AOC, a brand new shiny member of Congress? It isn't because she has any more power than any one of them, is it? Nope, those conservative men would never think that someone like her could be more powerful than they are. So why are they are attacking her with such vigor?

It's because they fear her ideas might take hold among the women in their base, so they feel the need to take her out now. That and she makes for a scary fundraising message, encouraging the rubes to send more $$$$ so their God-fearing conservative white man that represents them in Washington D.C. can fight the evil socialist woman.

Just a few short presumptions away from being this guy

How did you get from guaranteed job and a living wage of $15 an hour to guaranteed annual income coming to your bank without working?

How did you get from addressing climate change by lowering CO2 emissions via retiring coal to forcing us to become vegans?

How did you go from building sea walls and stronger carbon emission limits from cars to us being banned from using cars and using bicycles instead?

Watch fox news propaganda much?

Basically what you're doing is thinking like the 1950's.. there's a thing called heart bypass which can give you 20 years more life. OMG the doctors are out to kill me, they want to take my heart out and eat it.

Or you're arguing for the return of the great 1950's where you had a cadillac with no seat belts, no anti lock brakes, no gps, no carbon emission limitations, no decent mileage vs now when all those things are standard in a car but you're scared of HAL9000 in your car.

Obviously banning cars, killing half the population, and and forcing everyone to become vegans were only satire. At least I did not mention the Farting Cows, which she is now trying to blame on her staff.
And for your information, I have a very efficient car with all the latest safety features, including GPS, and have never liked Caddys. I most certainly am for lowering carbon emissions on a reasonable timetable, but carbon neutral in 10 years (yes she did say this was the goal) is patently absurd.

Yeah so does goals of losing 100+ lbs sometimes but you have to try or you never get there even if it does take a little bit longer than originally planned.

Just because you have a very efficient care doesn`t have a damn thing to do about your idiotic mis-informed responses to people questioning your hatred of AOC!!
What you call pretty absurd is again a Republican talking point as well as the cow farting!
People make mistakes get use to it!!
Oh, I am sorry you are blind to it -- after all you support the LiarInCheif--TRUMP!!

It is really none of your business, but I strongly oppose Trump. I also oppose wildly impractical proposals no matter what party they come from. As far as being a republican talking point, that does not mean it isn't true. In fact, Trump is already using AOC's proposals to rile up his base. As I already said, she could very well be the best thing to happen to the Republicans. The dems should be much more afraid of her radical proposals and the ammunition they will give Trump, than the Republicans supposedly are.

It is really none of your business, but I strongly oppose Trump. <-- you heard the saying if it looks like ____ and smells like _____ then it probably is ______.

I also oppose wildly impractical proposals no matter what party they come from. <---- Now be honest -- you actually know nothing about what she proposed and are basing what you think you know on Republican mis-information! Now naturally the Republican party is not known for being honest!

As far as being a republican talking point, that does not mean it isn't true. <-- Wowza!! You are so mis-informed!! How`s the kool aid taste??

In fact, Trump is already using AOC's proposals to rile up his base. <-- Of course he is!! He is afraid of her because he knows what she proposes is more fact than fiction!

As I already said, she could very well be the best thing to happen to the Republicans. <-- now that is funny!!!!!!!!

The dems should be much more afraid of her radical proposals and the ammunition they will give Trump, than the Republicans supposedly are.<-- Her proposals in actuality are not radical at all! We do need to get away from fossil fuels and we do need to worry about global warming! Only a Fool....would think that fossil duels are good for this earth!!
I doubt she is worried about Trump!! He seems to be taking care of that......lets see The President is a liar a cheat a divider a coward a bitter old man...did I leave some thing out??
Boo...…….

That's like telling headbangers to be afraid of Lady Gaga in 2008.

  • Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appeared in a televised town hall on Friday and forcefully defended her Green New Deal and called climate change "our greatest existential threat."
  • "This is urgent, and to think we have time is such a privileged and removed-from-reality attitude," Ocasio-Cortez said during the "All In" town hall hosted by MSNBC's Chris Hayes.
  • The ambitious proposal to fight climate change came up for vote Tuesday in the GOP-controlled Senate but failed to advance.
  • Republicans are trying to turn the progressive plan into a wedge issue in the 2020 elections.
Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appeared in a MSNBC town hall on Friday and forcefully defended her Green New Deal and called climate change "our greatest existential threat."
"We don't have time for five years of a half-baked, watered-down position," Ocasio-Cortez said during the "All In" town hall hosted by MSNBC's Chris Hayes. "This is urgent, and to think we have time is such a privileged and removed-from-reality attitude."
Ocasio-Cortez championed the Green New Deal with Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass. The ambitious proposal to fight climate change came up for vote Tuesday in the GOP-controlled Senate but failed to advance.
Even some Democrats in Congress have sought to distance themselves from the Green New Deal. Republicans, meantime, are trying to turn the progressive plan into a wedge issue in the 2020 elections.
She said the Green New Deal was intentionally written for the American people and not necessarily for her congressional colleagues.
"This is not a partisan issue, because there are Democrats who will get in the way of us saving ourselves," Ocasio-Cortez told to the town hall audience at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in the Bronx. "We encourage everyone here to look it up. I'm here not to convince my colleagues, but the electorate."
According to Ocasio-Cortez, if the American voters end up making the plan a priority or show overwhelming support for it, then there's "political room to pass it."
"A lot of what the Green New Deal is, is about shifting our political, economic and social paradigm on every issue," she said. "Because we don't have time to wait."
The Green New Deal includes a series of goals for fighting climate change and pollution as well as calling for economic and social justice reforms.
"This issue is not just about our climate," said the 29-year-old lawmaker. She said there's "runaway income equality" and the economy isn't producing and innovating like it needs to be for the American people.
Also, she said it was important to transition away from fossil fuel jobs to new energy jobs as part of a shift in the economy to help fight climate change.
The congresswoman also fought back against criticism that the Green New Deal was too broad or lofty.
"First of all, we've been here before," she said. "We've been here before with the Great Depression, we've been here before with World War II, even the Cold War. And the answer has been an ambitious and directed mobilization of the American economy to direct and solve our biggest problem."
She went on to say the climate crisis along with economic and social inequality are far too serious to ignore.
"To get us out of this situation, to revamp our economy, to create dignified jobs for working Americans, to guarantee health care and elevate our educational opportunities and attainment, we will have to mobilize our entire economy around saving ourselves and taking care of this planet," said Ocasio-Cortez
The plan has been ridiculed by some Republicans and right-wing media as "a socialist manifesto" and for mentioning the "farting cows" as a greenhouse gas problem.
Ocasio-Cortez said she expected the criticism of the Green New Deal plan but added, "I didn't expect them to make total fools of themselves."
Finally, she rejected those who consider the Green New Deal as radical or socialist.
"This is not a Tea Party of the left," Ocasio-Cortez said. "This is a return to representative democracy."

She is attacked by Republicans and the right wing media, daily. They call her rude, naive, stupid, one of those Hispanic types.

AOC has at least a few things over the right wing, manners and civility and a sense of right and wrong. At a public town hall one of AOC's constituents called a former Republican a moron because of his climate stance.

AOC responded with...
His comments led to loud groans from the audience, many of whom appeared to be fans of Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat. Some shouted "No!" One audience member shouted: "You moron!"

Ocasio-Cortez was readying to respond when she heard the audience member and stopped.

Hey! Hey! Hey! That's unacceptable," Ocasio-Cortez said as she pointed her finger at the audience member. Then, looking back at Inglis, she added: "And that's the difference between me and Trump."

I think the only person on the Republican side who would stand up to their constituents is John McCain and he's dead.

Every republican is fully invested in Trump. They think that mimicking his incivility and ignorance is the key to success for them. They won't stop until their party is defeated soundly and repeatedly.

I disagree, there are a few on these forums.
I agree nearly all elected republicans are at least the House & senate elected republicans but I suspect many will jump ship first opportunity

Whatever it takes to keep their seats it seems.

Trump's base is the key to all things related to his being kept or tossed out on his ass. They are the only reason Trump has been able to get away with this mounting pile of idiotic things he's done/is about to do at any given moment.

For the fact that in their eyes he can do no wrong locks this symbiotic pairing made in hell in place.

The Repub Party is stuck on stupid. They can't fix themselves so the rest of us are going to have to do it for them and then they're going to blame us for "un-stucking" them for the betterment of the nation because they wanted to be right where they were.

so was getting to the moon in less than 10 years, with absolutely no idea how to do it or any existing technology that was conceivably possible to achieve it. and yes: that was fucking expensive.

Time to pull your balls out of your crotch and start making the hard choices, bold moves, stop running from difficult tasks and stop being pants-shitting afraid of everything.

Be a fucking American for once. FFS: the baby boomers, especially, have just settled down into such a disgraceful level of self-defeating complacency and have decided that the only purpose of the USA is to amble on in mediocrity, as long as it can serve their generation to the full level of benefits that they absolutely plan to suck out and leave nothing behind. (Not all boomers, sure, but god damn: at least the younger generations are still asking the hard questions and wondering more about the world that will still exist after the boomers have passed on into nothing)

OK, maybe instead of just issuing personal attacks, why dont you set up a plan of how to accomplish this and what it will cost and where the money will come from.
