I'll just leave this here:

So he found out how to get around the drug screens, but admitted to doing them previously. How the hell can you rationalize this as being a witch hunt?

You are absolutely right about amphetamine usage, but that doesn't mean MLB didn't get fed up with it and ban them.

I'm not going to defend Selig at all when it comes to McGuire, Sosa, Bonds, etc. This shit should've been handled then before it became such a big fucking issue today. I am never going to be in favor of being reactive over being proactive.

99 other players tested positive when Arod did back then. It was supposed to be an anonymous test when MLB was trying to gauge how widespread use of PED's was. How come the only 2 names leaked off that test was Arod and David Ortiz? What about the other 98?

Amphetamines were not banned years ago. If you had a prescription from a doctor it was legal to play using "greenies". In the 60's and 70's most players who used them didn't have prescriptions, however.

And amphetamines had a very minor influence on play. Nothing like what modern ped's can do.

Amphetamine became a schedule II drug under the Controlled Substances Act in 1971.

...Amphetamine use has historically been especially common among Major League Baseball players and is usually known by the slang term "greenies". In 2006, the MLB banned the use of amphetamine. The ban is enforced through periodic drug-testing. However, the MLB has received some criticism because the consequences for amphetamine use are dramatically less severe than for anabolic steroid use, with the first offense bringing only a warning and further testing.

Ok so not officially "banned" by baseball until 2006, unless there was a prescription given by a doctor, still illegal to have in your possession.

Still not understanding why something has to be banned by ANY sport or governing body when technically the shit is illegal have to begin with. Seems like if I can be sent to a FPMITA Prison for it, having to go the extra mile and having it "banned" is redundant andshould be a no fucking brainer that its usage is unacceptable.

so why was A.ROD penalized the most?

If I told you they suspended Fautino De Los Santos and Jordan Norberto for the same amount of time or longer, do you honestly think anyone would have given a shit?

Listen to him talk about how "We have a chance to state our case", "We have a chance to speak more freely", "we are trusting the platform in place", etc.

Who the fuck is WE?

YOU are the asshole who did PEDs and got caught. Again, this isn't YOU accepting responsibility for the consequences of YOUR actions. He isn't the least bit remorseful in my eyes.

*edit*I have so much respect for Curt Schilling and even John Kruk. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=9541000

Selig didn't care too much about steroids when it was McGwire, Sosa and Bonds smashing home run records and driving up interest in MLB. The whole thing reeks of hypocrisy. But banning PEDs is better for the game in the long run. It has to start somewhere. Might as well be with one of the most high-profile "villain" figures baseball has seen in the past decade and change; seriously, is anyone on A-Rod's side at this point?

/this when it was filling the stadiums he didn't give a shit.. now? he cares.

Also im amazed at watching reports on the news. They are saying how he should just shut up and accept the ban and that he is wrong for fighting it.

Fuck you. he should fight it. its going to cost him $33 million if he does not. damn right he should.

who was really hurt in this? the fans? the baseball league? no.

Except that Alex never failed a drug test. Pretty much the only "evidence" they have against him is hearsay.

This is a witch hunt. Selig is much worse for baseball than PEDs ever were.

Also, it's kind of hard to bitch at people for taking PEDs when they were neither illegal nor against the rules at the time. Hell, players in the 50s used amphetamines. Should they all now be scorned with asterisks next to their names in the HOF?

This is all just posturing and it makes me respect the Yankees and MLB quite a lot less.

Well that and Alex admitting he cheated before but I guess that does not count. :whiste:

Great to see this awkwardly social and effeminate asshole finally get his due and take it in the ass, i.e. the pocketbook.

It wasn't enough being the best player in the MLB, Alex Rodriguez had to do steroids. What a great waste of talent, in the same league as Mantle talent-wise, and Belle/Fielder/Rocker/Bonds personality-wise. RIP

What an effed up game... Unfortunately, I stopped watching long before the drug thing took off, so don't care as much anymore.

I don't really care about the PEDs to be honest. But baseball players are just such lazy worthless human beings for the most part.

How are so many of them on PEDs yet overweight lardasses? Couldn't they perform exactly the same if they laid off the burgers and fries and beer and actually trained/ate well?

No, just being healthy will not enable them to perform like they do with PEDs.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of them get fat or even skinny (you know there's plenty of people that are scrawny on it as well, right?) just so they can convince average fans that they aren't doing the same shit.

This has been a big issue for decades and spans all sports so its not like its just something that baseball failed to manage. An entire industry devoted to beating testing cropped up. Sports leagues are fucked as they really can't do anything about this stuff as they'll always be a step behind, and the next stage is going to be impossible to do anything about as players will basically get surgery and things like that (blood treatments, stem cells, etc) to maximize their bodies' abilities.

Plus the sports don't want to actually do anything about this stuff. You can bet the NFL sure is glad Peyton went overseas for the special treatments he got.

Hell weren't they still playing a lot of double headers and then shitty travel back then? Plus many of those players had second jobs. They likely needed the amphetamines just to be able to stay functioning.

Due process is still one of the most important concepts that exists in our society, and the ARod case really stretches it to the limit.

But we need to cling to those ideals to protect ourselves.

so why was A.ROD penalized the most?

Because this isn't his first time. Its why Braun was so willing to take his punishment, as if he wanted to be a hardass then baseball would likely have said, yeah, so much for you being clean when we suspended you before, eh?

/this when it was filling the stadiums he didn't give a shit.. now? he cares.

Hmm, maybe the team paying him that $33 million?

Even monetarily he's likely better off just taking the suspension, as there's no way he'll win once all the dirty laundry about him comes out. That means he's going to likely forfeit a hell of a lot more than $33 million.

That's why they're saying if he was smart, he'd STFU, accept it, and move on, and let things die out and MLB will let him get most of his money. If he fights it, they're probably going to go after him big time and try and make sure they don't have to pay him.

Hell, if he fights this, it could very likely turn into a federal matter meaning he could be looking at shit like Clemens and Lance Armstrong, only they have Alex admitting to having used and I'm pretty damn sure they also have even more actual evidence than they did in those cases.

I quit watching and following baseball last year because I am sick of all this crap. It is VERY fucking simple: make controlled substances totally legal and let the player take his own risk OR severely punish players that are caught cheating. Pussyfooting around the situation will only lead to more people abandoning the MLB.

Technically Arod got a 100-game suspension for doping with an additional 111 games tacked on simply for being one of the biggest douchebags in the history of the game. He plans to appeal the games suspended for doping.

Hate baseball all you want (I'm just a casual fan when the playoffs roll around), but MLB has taken the PEDs issue more seriously than the NFL or esp. the NBA in recent years.

I'm no fan of Bud Selig but if nothing else, he had some change of heart in the past decade for "business reasons".
