Alex Rodriguez makes more money than the Entire Tampa Bay Devil Rays

edro

Alex Rodriguez makes more money than the ENTIRE Tampa Bay Devil Rays team PUT TOGETHER!

He makes something like 22 million a year, Tampa Bay's entire budget is like 19 million. I just saw it on CNN.

Is he really worth that much? And does Tamp Bay really suck that bad?

could the 8 everyday players and a starter beat ARod by himself?? without question he could.

A-Rod is a phenomenal player but he's on a team lacking leadership and good pitching. I don't know if he's worth more than all the Devil Rays though

yeah, because his owner is a bad businessman who threw money away even though he's been successful in his other ventures. if Mr. Hicks paid him that, he must be worth it. do you know how much the value of the franchise went up with his signing? how about the extra revenue from tickets and concessions? memorabilia? tv and radio contracts? parking? the property Hicks owns around the stadium appreciating? hell yes he's worth it. check the numbers yourself.

Awesome player he's worth being the highest paid player in the game. BUT 25 million a year is ridiculous no way you will ever see that kind of money again.

Where did I say he was a bad businessman? Extra revenue from tickets? Ticket sales last year were the lowest since 1995. You can't make money if no one comes out to watch your team play, and certainly the same can be said of the merchandising. (Redesigned for 2002 as well) And only 9/30 MLB teams last year made a profit, the highest being a profit of $16.1 million. You're sadly mistaken if you think the club pays for all the costs and Mr. Hicks pockets all the profit.

I'm not debating his value to the franchise..... I just think it's weird that he ALONE makes more than an ENTIRE team..... 😀

If A-Rod stays healthy his entire career he will likely be the greatest baseball player ever.

i see you didn't actually do the research. no surprise. just do me favor, before you reply again, do a little research. i'm sadly mistaken? coming from a guy who won't take the time to educate himself of the topic?

Funny thing - tampa bay makes more money in revenue sharing that it spends on its players. So in other words - the owner simply pockets the money. Things like that piss me off - baseball isn't about making money, it's about winning. I wish MLB would impose a minimum salary or something like that. At the very least, you ought to spend everything you receive in revenue sharing on your team.

My boss and I were talking about him yesterday... he did some figuring, and ARod gets something like $39,000 {b}per at bat[/b]. He makes more in one trip to the plate than I make in a year.

He is the best player in Baseball.

Tampa Bay is a small market team. They, like Oakland, Minnesota, and Montreal, cannot afford a high payroll. That does not mean that any player is not worth the money he makes. Does Jason Giambi deserve the money he makes? Randy Johnson? They are all overpaid to play a game, imo, but that's the economics of professional baseball.

The salaries in MLB is rediculous. The major problem is everyone is trying to up one another in superstar signings. Like somebody said; it should be about the love of the game. Anyways, if this guy ever drops his wallet on the sidewalk, someone will be extremely thrilled to find it.

baseball is about making money.

ask george steinbrenner. do you think he would continue to pay like he does if he wasn't making money??

Making money off ticket sales is one thing. Pocketing revenue sharing (aka wellfare) is another. How would you feel if somebody was living large off wellfare, while you were busting your ass 24/7?

I would say he's worth that much. Highest paid player in baseball, best offensive player in baseball.

I'd pick Posada over that OTHER catcher anyday. Einar.... who?
I'd pick Giambi over that OTHER first baseman anyday. Rafael viagra.... who? (ok that was a cheap shot, but I wanted to throw the viagra joke in there)
I'd pick Soriano over that OTHER second baseman anyday. Michael.... who?
I won't continue. 😛

Unlike the Yanks, the Rangers don't resort to buying out everyone in order to build a good team. (Before you flame me, the Yankees are undoubtly a better team than the Rangers. The Rangers could obviously "buy" a lot of players but they don't prefer to do it that way)

Sadly that's true. It's a shame too considering teams like KC I think were on the verge of bankruptcy or being eliminated from baseball. Profit sharing among teams might be better for all teams involved, or a cap, but sadly the owners will never let that happen.
