Alcohol is not for me? A question. A thought. And you?

This is most probably the wrong IBB to post this on, since 90% of the members here are about 1/2 my age. Therefore, they do not have enough Life Experience in their "Portfolios" to be allowed to answer.

Been thinking lately...about quitting drinking...alcohol, period. It's just too damn expensive. I drink Bourbon, not beer. Beer does nothing but give me the shiits. Bourbon isn't cheap!

I can go many days in a row with no drink. But when I get the urge, I drink...feel like shitt the next day, etc.

I drink smartly; I NEVER drink and drive...anymore...

HEY, "when I was younger" is just that...it was a different world back in the mid-80's!!!! I just do not do it now, nor for the past.....6 years, about.

Don't drink before or during work, EVER. Not at lunch, not even at a "business lunch." I only drink "after hours" or on the weekend when it cannot possibly affect my "life."

Anyway, since it no longer holds any interest for me...yet I keep doing it....yet I haven't stopped....yet I don't care about it....I'm thinking about just quitting, period.

Has anyone been there, done that?

I like drinking. I like it only if I can get a buzz, though. I.E. "Social Events" where you stand there with a glass of wine for an hour are a waste of time. I can DO the social event for eight hours, if necessary, W/O any drinks...but one sip...and I want more. Does anyone understand this?

It's like sex for me. That's why I don't go to titty bars. Why bother? I don't want you to shake it in my face, I want you to SIT ON MY FACE. If I can't have that, why bother?

Dang...this is weird.

I can relate.
I have drank in the past, but decided it really wasn't worth it.

I used to do a LOT of drugs, but got bored with them and quit them to.

(for the most part) ;)

I stopped drinking for a while after I worked at a bar. It just got to the point where it got old.

I've never drank. Granted, I just turned 22, but it's not like the opportunity hasn't been there for years.

It's not that I have anything against it, I just can't see myself doing it. I'm just not a drinker.

I greatly enjoy drinking when I do it. I'm like you, once I start I want more, generally will have about a half bottle on a drinking night, which average perhaps once a month. Beyond that it's less enjoyable and I'm entering hangover territory, which just blows. I don't see it as a problem in any way, though if it was a more frequent thing I could see it becoming one.

Considering what you've said, it would probably be for the best. What you're doing now isn't particularly destructive, but it seems like you'd be better served by the additional cash, not to mention setting a shining example for your son.:)

I understand where your comming from. Ive been drinking moderately, and sometimes to excess the past 9 years or so. I stay away from beer also, mostly because it doesn't affect me much, and stick to Bushmills Irish Whiskey. Im drinking about a glass per day now, much less then when I was younger, and im feeling alot better health wise. It was a routine for me, then it was a habit, now its just becoming a burden. Time to stop completely!

Thanks, guys. Your words are very helpful. :)

It's easy to "mentally quit." I've done that about a dozen times in the past two years. It is a lot harder to REALLY do it. To NOT buy "The Bottle on a Friday Night of a 3-Day Weekend."

The health benefits alone should make you stop. Hard liquor really takes its toll on the body over time.
