yea you gotta look at the price vs performance and i think from reading everyone elses reviews it does pretty well.
You're not going to get the performance of a G4 S6 iphones etc.. this isn't in that tier.
But if you're comparing it to your 200-250 budget phones then I bet this ranks pretty well in that regard.

If anyone wants this phone for the Pre-order Price + shipping.
I'm putting mine up. it's in perfect condition.
If no takers today~ I'm sending it back to Amazon.

What's wrong with it? What didn't you like about it?

There's nothing I didn't like about it and it was literally new in the box since the only thing I did was take off the front sticker and put my google account. Everything else remained in it's packaging.

I have a company iphone 5s that I was currently using and switching between the 2 back and forth was a pain in the butt for me, so I decided to just use the 5s for now and wait for the next gen phones to come out.

Also it's no longer available from me. Just returned it to Amazon and already got full refund. Figured I'll offer it up to someone here first and save them $50 bucks but got no interest.

Would an Idol 3 be much of an upgrade from a Galaxy S3? I'm debating on getting something newer, but didn't want to mess with it if it was going to be about the same.

if you watch movies or listen to music at all, it'll be an upgrade. You might be able to sell your old phone to cover the probably 1/2 the cost of the alcatel if you kept it in good condition.
