I have a chance to transfer and relocate to Albuquerque, NM, with my company, pending an interview, and I want to know if anyone have any feedback or insights about Albuquerque I should know.

I had the good fortune of living there for six and a half years. I relocated about two and a half years ago to effin south Florida, which is hell on earth. OK, enough of my rant about this dump. On to ABQ.
Overall, it's a fine place to live. Of course, it depends upon where you're moving from and what your interests are ??
Personally, I'd move back there in a heartbeat. But, I like insanely spicy Mexican food, chubby Mexican women, great horned owls, and knowing that I can drive fifteen minutes outside of town and be in the middle of nowhere and away from that same chubby woman who I promised a green card to if she would sleep with me.:)

We have a 80K acre cattle ranch about 3 hours south of ABQ. When I visit I usually fly in through ABQ. Its a nice town. Beautfiul scenery, though I personally find it quite boring. I dont like the temps. there either. There are many drunk drivers, so watch out if you go there.

I in general dont like the city, but I havent spent more than 1-2 weeks in it. Just doesnt appeal to me.

It is a pretty city, especially at night when viewed from the west hill or from the Sandia Peak tramway.

Albuquerque is a nice metropoliton city to live in.It has a distinct mexican cultural flair that is much of its beauty. It is unique to the Southwest. There are many Indian reservations in New mexico adding to the rich historic and contemporary culture. Albuq. has the Sandia mountains and Monzano mountains to give the city a nice back drop. It is 1 mile high and intersected by I 25 running north to south, and I 40 running east to west.

I belive the finest mexican food in the world comes from Albuquerque's Old Town, where you will find a 5 star rated restaurant run by Fred Harvey group. You will experience culinary treats found no where else.
Water skiing and boating are but a fiew hours away at Elephant Butte Reservoir, south, adjacent to Truth or Consequences. (yes, its named after the game show;))

Snow skiing is at Sandia peak accessable from the west side of Sandia Mountain via the longest arial tramway in the world. It is truly a spectacular place, and another 5 star restaurant at the peak. Dinning drom 2 miles up and a vista(view) at sunset to die for.

There is gambling available at indian casinos, and paramutual horse racing at Ruidoso Downs.

The city has all the usual amenities, shopping malls, chain stores, good neighborhoods, and some poverty pockets as well. Labor rates are not to high there, but you can make enough to live comfortably. The schools are good. There is a good airport adjacentto Kirtland Air Base, which is also adjacent to Sandia Laboratories. You can do some research on those places.

Many companies have located there to take advantage of an ubundate competitive labor force.

All in all, you may just like it. I did.:)

I live in Albuquerque..you might want to PM me. My personal opinion is it's a great place to live for a while but we are REALLY quite isolated so you'd best enjoy outdoor type things. It is gorgeous with excellent weather and very limited things to do. I am personally planning on leaving here after 9 years to move to Dallas for better employment opportunites. If you ever lose your job here you might have a hard time finding a good job...depending on what you do.
