ALBERT EINSTEIN What did he DO?

Well my son is doing a project on Albert Einstein and I got the facts of him Born? Death? lived? but I need to know what he did in layman's terms.

I need to know what he did then?

and

What he did to affect us today?

Sorry to ask but I googled and I'm a idiot when I try to understand what the hell he did?

So he is the father of the Atomic Bomb?

No, not really, he just wrote a letter to FDR talking about how it could be used, if I remember correctly.

Not really, he layed out the equations that showed it was possible to get a lot of energy from matter. He had nothing to do with the U.S. developing nukes.

Yeah I read that but what the hell does it mean? did you not read where I said I am a IDIOT? 😱

Einstein's theory basically says that:
* matter and energy are interchangable.
* Things that have mass can not reach the speed of light.
* That time slows down as things speed up.
* That mass increases as things speed up.
* That gravity bends light.

he also contributed to the knowledge of the photoelectric effect, that an electron is emitted when a conductor is bombarded by photons.

There is probably more, but I'm missing the superbowl!

Well I could write a letter to GWB saying how cool it would be to live on the moon but how did I contribute to the colonization of the moon in the year 2045.

So please explain.

Make sure you put in the thing he actually won a Nobel Prize for: The Photoelectric Effect. Gist: Light can interact with matter, more specific to this case, electrons, and can knock them free of the atoms to which they are bound. The main every day applications of this are CCDs and solar panels.

actually, E=mc^2 wasn't his greatest accomplishment, or at least, it's not the accomplishment that won him the Nobel prize in physics.

His Nobel was for work on the photo-electric effect. This helped confirm the dual particle/wave nature of light, treating like in a "quantum" or small individual quantities manner which later led to the development of quantum mechanics.

In layman's terms, when light of sufficient frequency strikes metal, it ejects electrons.

There... a little addition to that and it's ready for the report 🙂

Special theory of relitivity - Nothing can go faster than the speed of light.

General theory of relitivity - we live in a 3d world while traveling in a 4d space time.

Originally was a clerk at a swiss patent office.

He was a political activist. Left Europe when he didn't like the nazi's.

Ok so for a kids report I would say one of the things he discovered is the "Photoelectric Effect" which today is most commonly used in Digital Picture/Video Cameras, And Solar panels to harness the power of the sun.

Is that right?

He invented Superman, the chocolate bar, socks, velcro, started the Shriners, discovered The Beatles, and placed 2nd in the Mr. Universe competition 1942.

HEY!!!! Einsteins a little too much FOR ME.😀😱

But that's who the report is on Albert Einstein.
