Having seen quite a few brands of mobo out there with bad caps viz. Abit, MSI, ECS etc... I am wondering how the new kid on the block fares when it comes to build quality. It hasn't been around long enough for us to see leaking bulging caps yet but a recent VR Zone review by RiStaR threw up components of unknown reputation.

Albatron silver 845E review

The PX845E is fitted with 9 x low ESR 10LVDK electrolytic capacitors of 2200ìF 6.3V as well as 3 x low ESR G S C Aluminum electrolytic capacitors of 2200ìF 16V to provide additional stability of CPU power. Compared with other motherboards, it seems to have about the average number of capacitors, however I have never seen such brands before... this is just the beginning of other ICs that I've not seen before.

To date, I have yet to hear about bad caps on a Asus mobo, perhaps they are that good and worth the extra bucks or perhaps, I just have't heard enough. So any comments on Albatron cos I am thinking of trying out the above listed mobo soon. Nothing much was mentioned about the component quality in the review here.

Thanks.

Well, I trust Albatron and just ordered an Albatron 845pe board for work.
they are originated by the ex-president of Gigabyte which is why their boards are all blue (educated guess) and they all seem good to me (used a few)

Gigabyte is a successful company, and I think Albatron will follow suit.

hi Yield, I do know the history of the company - it's been splashed in many reviews. That doesn't mean that every of their products will be of the same quality as Gigabyte, just like not all their mobos are blue in colour. We shouldn't generalise just based on past records. ;)

I am asking for some opinion on the components used on this specific mobo which was reviewed very favorably in Anandtech itself but the review lacked details in the nitty gritty. Here's the review if you missed it.

I've heard some negatives on this board. It seems that it likes to lock the OC to what it thinks is the highest. Doesn't give the operator all the control.. I was going to buy one. Changed my mind..

man, that really sounds bad. Any reference site/post to show for this fatal flaw?
