Just checked my bank account online, a nice little direct deposit from the Permanent Fund Division of $1540.76. :D WOOHOO! I am going to have to go out today and buy something completley useless with part of that money.

Too bad the PFD may not be around next year. :( I like having "free" money.

does the amount vary by age or income or anything? or is it an equal share for all?

what is the age cutoff? or do kids get it too?

All Alaskan residents receive a PFD. For example, my sister's one year old kid receives a PFD. It does not vary by income or age, everyone who qualifies receives the same amount.

I bet today is going to be a pretty busy shopping day, especially with the Best Buy that just opened.

Somehow I don't think a couple grand would make up for the longass winters + eternal darkness you guys have. I hated Michigan winters enough....I can only imagine how much fun they are at your latitude.

he forgot to tell you, the cost of living is so high, that the $1540.76 will only buy a #3 combo meal at McDonald's ;)

You are correct: Alaska Rules!

And the cost of living isn't all that big of a deal, IMO. People kept saying that, among other erroneous things, to keep me from moving up here. Sure some things are higher but mostly it's luxury items like a box of Little Debbies that cost .99 cents in the lower 48 cost 1.99 here. Or fruits and vegitables might be higher because of the shipping cost. But as far as housing and other normal living expenses, the cost of living is pretty much relative to the rate of pay. Unlike western NY where I came from where the cost of living was actually higher that the average rate of pay.

Dude I love Alaska! So much wilderness, ITS LIKE MY FANTSEY PLAYGROUND!

My wife is comming from Haines, Alaska. Im serious, I have a good family friend who lives there and i visited once after my backpacking trip in Yukon Cananda. Anyways he gave me a number of this girl my age so she could show me around town and what not. So after meeting her and her friends i came to the conclusion that my wife lives in Haines.
