Alarming Vcore Voltage no idea why? 6700K (stock)

Did I speak too soon? No idea what the heck is going on but this morning I started my PC and 2 times I got BSOD on Boot up. Had to disable XMP and that seems to fix the issue. So odd. Never know what to expect with Computers I guess.

I guess not. You may have a deeper issue than voltage spikes, I'm afraid. XMP has been known to edit some unexpected BIOS settings.

Really hoping I can build a new PC early next year with latest i7 and better GPU. Can't because of money right now.

Disabling XMP might have been a good idea anyway. Can you hand-tune your XMP settings instead of relying on XMP and see if your system is stable after that? You might be pleasantly surprised.

Just recently learned how to Overclock the CPU, got it stable at 4.5Ghz but I had to reach 1.35v to keep it stable which isn't the greatest but its something to do with my Motherboard (Why I really want a new build) but I never messed with Overclocking memory so I don't know how to do it.

Why the latest I7 ? At the moment, it looks like the new 3000 series Ryzen will be the way to go, less expensive, and probably faster. Not to mention running cooler.

Well we are speaking about a year from now. Probably around this time by next year. I don't know anything about AMD/Ryzen either but unfortunately I don't get to build a new computer for a while now.

OK, just a question. But before you DO buy, check the latest benchmarks/reviews/prices. That was my point.

I never messed with Overclocking memory so I don't know how to do it.

Now might be a decent time to learn. If you have the time. Testing and tuning RAM can be rather time-consuming.

You and I have the same processor motherboard combination and I also see ridiculous Vcore voltages on my i7-6700k. It also struggles to be stable on an overclock even as mild as 4.4Ghz. Its the motherboard, I've had issues with mine, it supplies too much voltage and exhibits some weird behaviour.

Mine also has an onboard sound issue whereby it would sometimes be completely distorted and 100% volume with no way to kill it or stop it other than a complete restart. Had to invest in a USB DAC to solve it.

I'm considering just selling it on and upgrading/sidegrading to a 3700X.

System has being running butter smooth for the past year or so. No overclock but its running fine. No idea what the issue was.
