LOL.

If that's the way we should think about Alabama, what should we think about Mississippi?

You mean there's a difference? Then what about Loozeeana?

I'm just trying to figure out when the bald, fat, stupid, toothless, white racist rednecks switched places with the Dems. Cause if the posters in this thread doesn't exemplify everything wrong with those stereotypes then nothing does.

You disgust me.

Alabama has a bank?!?

That was my 1st thought.

You'd be surprised. Until the latest round of bank mergers and acquisitions, Alabama (Birmingham specifically) was a strong regional banking center. The way the laws were set up here were very conducive to setting up state banks. People think that we are some sort of third world country down here, but then again ignorance knows no bounds. Sad to see Colonial go down though. The Regions/Amsouth merger hurt a lot of people just before the shit hit the fan economically nationwide.

As an Auburn Alum, I couldn't be happier now that Bobby Lowder's personal piggy bank and BoT influence fund is sinking.

Yep ... Regions/Amsouth hurt a lot of people.

That merger also involved Union Planters. Amsouth had merged with Deposit Guaranty which cost a lot of people jobs where I am from.

Yes, AL, MS, and LA have there fair share of banks relative to their population.

I always find it interesting that people stereotype people in the south because they think people from the south stereotype other races. The irony is pretty strong.

Delta is ready when you are.?

;)

I'm in the air force so that's a no go : ( I'm in the capital city of Alabama and there is literally no decent area. The skyline has like 1 nice building, and it always smells terrible outside no matter where you go within 50 miles of here (apparently there's a papermill just outside the city). I've lived in subdivisions in Florida more developed than the capital city of this state...

Montgomery is a dump. Sorry to hear you're stuck at Maxwell. Birmingham is coming along nicely (still finding their footing now that steel can't carry the city) and Huntsville is nice. In my biased opinion, Auburn is a nice place too. :)

Everybody knows that Montgomery is a squalid sh*thole. That's your problem! Huntsville is much nicer, as are the non-city parts of Birmingham. Montgomery is the city I counted seven cash-advance places once within a single mile of driving. Now, there may be some nice parts, but my favorite part of Montgomery was always seeing it in my rear view mirror.

There's one intersection with like five bails bonds places at it. Seriously, who needs the services of a bail bondsmen next to a bail bondsmen next to a bail bondsmen next to a bail bondsmen next to a bail bondsmen?!

There would be no effect. If the FDIC did not exist a private insurance market would have taken over.

Was there one prior to the FDIC? Didn't a lot of people lose money in the Great Depression?

I personally, without the FDIC, would not keep any cash in the bank. Not for the paltry interest rate one gets. A private insurer would be ok, but only if it was tacitly backed by the government, since insurance companies can become insolvent I suppose, especially during some banking cascade catastrophe.
