Al-Qaida in Iraq "the only thing acceptable is a conversion or the sword."

Nice AP article on yahoo.com about the Iranian leader urging more papal protests.
Further down Iraq Al-Qaida weights in with their opinion of all this:
Al-Qaida in Iraq and its allies said Muslims would be victorious and addressed the pope as "the worshipper of the cross," saying "you and the West are doomed as you can see from the defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya and elsewhere. ... We will break up the cross, spill the liquor and impose the 'jizya' tax, then the only thing acceptable is a conversion (to Islam) or (being killed by) the sword."

Islam forbids drinking alcohol and requires non-Muslims to pay the "jizya" tax, though those who convert are exempt. The tax, sometimes called a head tax, has not been imposed in Muslim nations in about 100 years, though Islamic militant groups have tried to force non-Muslims to pay it on a local level in some countries.

"You infidels and despots, we will continue our jihad (holy war) and never stop until God avails us to chop your necks and raise the fluttering banner of monotheism, when God's rule is established governing all people and nations," said the statement by the Mujahedeen Shura Council, an umbrella organization of Sunni Arab extremist groups in Iraq.

Al-Qaida in Iraq said Muslims would be victorious and addressed the pope as "the worshipper of the cross" saying "you and the West are doomed as you can see from the defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya and elsewhere. ... We will break up the cross, spill the liquor and impose the 'jizya' tax, then the only thing acceptable is a conversion (to Islam) or (being killed by) the sword."
Another Iraqi extremist group, Ansar al-Sunna, challenged "sleeping Muslims" to prove their manhood by doing something other than "issuing statements or holding demonstrations."

"If the stupid pig is prancing with his blasphemies in his house," the group said in a Web statement, referring to the pope, "then let him wait for the day coming soon when the armies of the religion of right knock on the walls of Rome."
In Iran, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei used the comments to call for protests against the United States. He argued that while the pope may have been deceived into making his remarks, the words give the West an "excuse for suppressing Muslims" by depicting them as terrorists.

"Those who benefit from the pope's comments and drive their own arrogant policies should be targeted with attacks and protests," he said, referring to the United States.
From the apologists:
"His comments really hurt Muslims all over the world," Umar Nawawi of the radical Islamic Defenders' Front said in Jakarta. "We should remind him not to say such things which can only fuel a holy war."
So, does anyone still think that by leaving Iraq and the middle east these people are going to be happy? When will you wake up to the fact that their goal is "conversion or the sword"

Yeah you moron, because the Ayatollah, Iraqi extremist groups and Al-Qaida are representatives of 1+ billion Muslims. The pope is either a complete moron or he knew exactly what would happen by quoting the passage he did. I'm thinking it was the latter and he meant to stir up more anti-Muslim sentiment because its obvious third world illiterate Muslims are going to hear about this as third hand information and think the pope is declaring a crusade.

If so-called educated Americans are too lazy and dumb to bother reading the context of a message in its entirety, what are the chances of 3rd world illiterates doing so? The pope knew this and I think he made a calculated decision to say what he did. Like I said in my other post, it's pretty obvious White Christian racists (and their nazi pope) and their allies are intent on starting a war with Muslims, moderate or not. In fact I'd say this issue transcended religion long ago for racist Christians and became a racial one: Anyone of mideastern ethnicity vs. Whites. Subjugation of other races (and genocide) isn't something foreign to racist White Christians--just ask the native American Indians.

Hmm, well how long did it take for this statement to be made? It certainly wasn't the original intent and it is not a reason to have started the whole thing to begin with(Iraq War).

What you are trying to conclude is the same as me poking you until you punch me out of annoyance, then me claiming you assaulted me. You are so evil, I just had to poke you for awhile before the evil could be seen by all. 😉

This whole Pope comment thing has gotten out of hand and appears to be a misunderstanding, but all the idiot Christians, Jews, and Muslims the world over are getting what they want, self generated Holy War.

And the Whackery continues.

This is no longer (if it ever was) about the injustice done to Muslims. They think the whole world needs to convert to Islam. They're killing everyone. Nice example they set.
Yup, looks peaceful to me. Soon the level of intolerance will be reached. How much longer is the world going to put up with their tirades of blowing people up, buring an effigy of everyone who speaks out against them, or those who's point of view they don't agree with?
I say let us get out of the ME, bring our troops home, then stay out of their lives. Let them work out their own issues. They have no desire to advance, apparently. Why have the rest of the world try and help the unwilling?

And when they're equipped with a modern military arsenal that the influx of oil money has netted them, do you imagine that dream of worldwide Islam will still exist?

So we need to Oppress them for our own good then.

Some of you people here are really goddamn stupid. Al Qaeda is an EXTREME ISLAMIC GROUP. That's like saying the Ku Klux Klan speaks for all Christians, or even some of it.

Iran is a theocracy. As far as I know, the only other theocracy on Earth is THE VATICAN.

Please be a bit more intelligent before you post crap like this.

You should distinguish between Al Queda and the Mid-East.

What is the point of this post? This is nothing new... we shouldn't be in Iraq in the first place and if we decided to actually get off oil and onto alternative fuels like BRAZIL we wouldn't be funding the middle eastern countries and would have nothing to do with them... unfortunately, Bush is an oil baron who gives oil companies tax breaks and does nothing about alternative fuels.

I don't know why I even bother, but let me try running this through that squishy mass you call a brain one more time.

Muslims are not all the same...those of us on "the left" want to work with the NON-EXTREMIST ONES, you know, the ones NOT saying things like the OP quoted. Let me know if I'm going too fast for you guys, I realize critical thinking is not your strong suit...but I'm having trouble coming up with smaller words to say this.

It's almost like you can't distinguish between the radicalized Muslims and 99% of the remainder of the Muslim world who does not believe any of this crap. Are you seriously buying into "AQ in Iraq's" propoganda?

What makes you think we aren't already distinguishing between them? Have you ever thought "these people" might refer to the extremists and not to the average moderate Muslims? I have always believed that even if Israel was destroyed and we were out of the Middle East, we would still have problems with these extremists. I have always believed that their ultimate goal is to force Islamic rule over the whole of Earth. And these statements just reinforce this belief of mine. I know you will argue that it's really our foreign policy that is the root cause of our problems but in this case, I will take them at their word over your arguments.

Finally, isn't the percentage of these radicalized extremists or sympathizers a little bit higher than 1% of the Islamic population? Back at the start of the Afghan war, the President of Pakistan tried to reassure the U.S. that only about 10% of Pakistan was extremists or sympathized with them and that there was no danger of their nuclear weapons falling into their hands. Unfortunately, I was not comforted by the 10% figure -- to me that is a dangerously high percentage of the population.
