<< In the first eye-witness accounts of life inside the city, escaping civilians last night told The Telegraph that an Arab al-Qa'eda commander had ordered the massacre of 150 Afghan Talibs who wanted to defect.

As alliance commanders prepared for their latest offensive on Kunduz, refugees described atrocities committed by al-Qa'eda militiamen.

Mohammed Ibrahim, 50, who escaped from the city yesterday, said: "A commander who was foreign gave the order for 150 local Afghan Taliban to be killed because they wanted to surrender. They showed them no mercy."

He said the massacre took place on Friday and followed the defection of 1,000 Afghan Talibs under Gen Mirai Nasery, a local commander. Al-Qa'eda soldiers had arrested more than 100 prominent Kunduz citizens and were holding them hostage to stall an alliance attack.

Most of the Taliban soldiers defecting is actually Afganistan Pashtuns. Many of these people were forced to fight for Taliban. Al-Qa'eda unit, on the other hand, consist of mostly foreigners, Pakistani and Arabs, fanatical to the regime.

<< i thought the taliban came from the pashtuns >>

True, but the ones trapped in Kunduz are actually elite Al-Qaeda unit, mostly Arabic and Pakistani.

These boys should die the most painful death posible. I bet they were jumbing up and down with joy when they saw the WTC collapsed.

More info

<< Zardad described the killing in Kunduz of a group of boys in their late teens by Taliban from Kandahar after some of the youths laughed at them. He and others also recounted how troops shot and killed a doctor when he delayed responding to their summons to come treat wounded Taliban fighters.

Refugees said people of the city were hiding indoors and closing their shops for fear of summary execution by the Taliban. Foreign fighters, using local translators, were broadcasting loudspeaker announcements saying they would be taking the offensive against northern alliance troops laying siege to the city.

But it appears that they made a offer of surrender. ...

To play devils advocate here for a moment.

Our own military can (under military law) shoot deserters.

So why is it so shocking or wrong when another country does??

Is that a good or a bad thing?
I think the more Taliban and Al-Qaeda kill each other, the less work we got to do.

Exactly my point 😉

Hmm, lets see here. The taliban are extremely repressive regime, they have harbored these foreign militia and cohort with them, now those same people kill em when they wanna defect. Bittersweet irony. I certainly have no sympathy for them.

I can't say I feel any pity for them. The Taliban/Al-Qaeda are assholes. They should have known better when they all grabbed their AK-47's and rushed to go fight for them.

Well it is about to get worse, it looks like a new civil war is going to start before the current war is done.

Can this country be tamed?
