Does not seem like 9 million $$ buys very much these days. If he had purchsed this estate in many other locations it would have purchased a lot more.

Half the cost is in the things you don't see, such as fresh ladyboys shipped from thailand.

I'm of the opinion that if you care about a cause strongly enough, you wouldn't spend $9 million on yourself but instead invest that money towards your cause.

Obviously Mr. Gore does not feel strongly enough about global warming to, perhaps, get a $1 million house and spend $8 million fighting global warming.

$9 million, lol, that is nothing to him. He is the 5th largest shareholder in the Chicago climate exchange , with cap and trade will be worth trillions. Funny how that global warming crusading he did ties in with the one company that will be in control of the money.

Well, to properly show my disgust with Al Gore conspicuous consumption, I could just burn all my framed photographs of Al Gore, but I won't for two reasons.

1. It might contribute to extra carbon pollution in the atmosphere.

2. I do not have any framed Al Gore photo's to burn.

Besides, Al's half share in a Nobel prize can more than finance this house. Even if I have little respect for Al Gore as a scientist, he has inspired many more real scientists who work to unravel a very complex problems that will, in future, give us better answers to global warming questions.

So pedophilia is OK, as long as the person having sex with children also does enough to promote the welfare of the children he isn't having sex with.

Ain't money great!

How'd we make a connection between Al Gore's cognitive dissonance with respect to energy use to friggin' pedophilia? Holy hell.

This thread is now officially about pedophiles.

You're a smart guy Descartes, and I generally respect your opinions, but you're being intentionally dense here.

If a person is allowed to do immense damage to the planet by flying around the world in private jets and owning several multi-million dollar homes because they do enough good works to offset their piggish be, then isn't it OK to have sex with children as long as they help enough children to offset the ones they hurt?

It's OK that Gore lives an unsustainable, ecologically disastrous lifestyle because he preaches the dangers of global warming, so it must be OK for a person who donates their wealth to build a children's hospital to have sex with one or two kids.

I'm afraid it really can't be any clearer.

Or better yet spending $1 million and the rest on taking it off the "grid". Obviously that won't happen with Al because the guy is full of shit.

Well, I appreciate the endorsement, but I guess my rhetorical question didn't come off as intended. I get the connection, and yes I agree one would have to be dense not to; however, I'm merely disagreeing with it and felt trying to discuss his dissonance in the context of pedophilia was a bit dishonest. Sexual abuse of children is a moral abomination and a crime.

Admittedly, I haven't really followed Gore's campaign. I don't particularly see any conflict with a person that chooses to live a consumptive lifestyle in the context for some effort to seek a balance. In contrast, I don't think there's any balance to be achieved with any criminal act.

I'm exhausted after a very long week already, so if I'm not making sense that's my excuse. :)
