Yeah Gore has yet to win a single count I think it's time to concede so we can talk about something else on Thanksgiving. Of course the way it is going now we may be talking about it after X-mas.

Red, there is a time when you need to just let it go. I think that Al is just beating a dead horse. This election was over a long time ago, and he and his "crew" are just making it worse:(

i support recounting in only those areas where there is an overwhelming Democratic advantage...as for those recounts of the overseas ballots, what recounts?

George Bush, please JUST GIVE UP! You might actually win this thing, but it would be more convincing if you staked your claim after the real vote count was ascertained, instead of trying to pre-empt the issue by declaring an unsubstantiated victory when there really is at least a chance you could be wrong.

I didn't vote for you, and I never would. The worst that could happen is that you actually were able to fulfill anything you advocate. I voted for Gore because you really are such a brainless twit that, even if you were as unsucessful as most people think you will be, you would be a social embarrassment to the country every time you open your mouth in public. I hope that four years from now, there will be some candidates I could really respect, and I won't have to consider either of you.

The interesting thing about that map is that all the county borders are blue. Why do democrats like to live on county lines? That is totally weird :);)

Toonces:

You don't get a cigar or a President.

We aren't going to award the Presidency to the candidate who wins the most square miles, most counties, most of the population, or the counties with the most growth.

None of those criteria matter.

Most Americans feel the popular vote should decide the election.

On that criterion, Gore won.

Where there is population density there is foment and excitement and stimulation. To cope, the brains is forced to develope social and other skills that lead to flexibility and adaptivity of thought. This is called civilization. The people in the red areas will eventually get trickle down liberalism, because culture lifts all boats. In the mean time, the modern humans have to keep pulling their primative butts kicking and screaming into the future. For example, even in advanced areas of developement, like where I live, (hehe) only a few of us experienced world travelers realize that Thom's country is the most civilized place on the planet.

Gore would make a better president than Bush. He must fight.

Hay, don't get upset. I don't blame you. Our arrogance is the result of geographic insolation from the multiple facits of would culture that preclude our capacity to experience comparitive organic shame. We aren't called The Ugly American for nothing.

But while we are a band of Chimps from deeper in the forrest than some, we have a certain magesty of spirit and decency that at times expresses itself. Just give us a call, if Gore wins, and you get invaded.

Oh, and up yours, I would live there if I wanted to.

More likely in your case due to a huge cob up your arse, backed up plumbing, and brown cotton candy for brains. People with your attitude disgust me. You have NO idea what a real American is, and never will. Go hold hands, sing some songs with Barbara or Joan, smile a lot, and feel good about the great difference you've made by doing so. The REAL people of this country that tolerate even mushheads like you will continue to do so, for the time being anyway. Think about that the next meal you eat.

What with Monsanto and computerized tractors, Format C:, you will doubtless soon join the ranks of those evolving. Oh and I had the same ugly reaction when I found out how backward I am.

Chess9,

Actually, you are incorrect on this statement.

<<Most Americans feel the popular vote should decide the election.

On that criterion, Gore won. >>

Most Americans do not feel that the popular vote to decide this election. Most Americans feel that the candidates should stick with the rules we started the election with.

Gore did not win on that criterion, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a Bush supporter. This election is the perfect example as to why we have (and need) the electoral college.

There is most likely a 3-5% error in the counting of ballots in this country. The difference between the popular vote falls WELL within that error margin.

What does that mean? That means that without the electoral college, we would be recounting the entire nation over. Imagine the irregularities that both sides would find if that were the case.

If you don't believe me, then you also do not believe that we should be doing a hand recount in FL for the EXACT same reason.

TS, part and parcel with going to a popular vote, and even if we don't, we clearly need to find a way to insure that the people who vote are entitled to vote, that they vote once, and that there is no doubt about who they voted for, and the votes are correctly recorded with receipt. Given that, there will be no need for recounts.

Moonbeam...

I aggree... However, until the ballots in every state are the same and foolproof (as well as the counting method). The EC is the best we have. There is no way we could go by the popular vote alone. Not in this election.

I hope that someday the popular vote will determine the President. But I seriously doubt that can happen for some time. There will always be irregularities and corruption... that is why we have this system.

I really am tiring of hearing popular vote this, popular vote that. Who the hell cares when
HALF THE VOTING POPULATION STAYED HOME. Let me say that again for the cheap seats.HALF THE VOTING POPULATION STAYED HOME. So at very best, George and Al got about 24% of the vote each. "We Don't Give a Rat's A$$" got the other 50%.

How's that for a "vote" of confidence.

Both candidates are failures.

<< <<Most Americans feel the popular vote should decide the election. >>

Perhaps chess9 was not speaking of THIS election, but elections in general.

Something like, "most Americans feel that elections should be settled by a popular vote.

I don't know if this will happen though. Right now the electoral college gives an advantage if you live in a small state, I don't know if small states will give this up.

And some Democrats and Republicans may oppose, since it hurts minority party candidates. Ross Perot got 15% or more votes one year, but NO electoral college.

If Bush takes office you can bet that Hillary will run against him in 2004. Gore has no future after this stunt. So, looks like we have eight years of Republican rule ahead of us. Thanks Al!

For me, the worst part about this is being demonized by the Republicans in my life. I don't demonize them... why do they insist on blaming this whole thing on the Democrats? I have to believe that this moment has been coming for a long time. This is the end result of quite a few factors, and yes, I think the Republicans and Democrats have contributed to the mess pretty equally. It's one great big dysfunctional American family!

I am SO tired of having to hear about the evil, bad, immoral Democrats. And yes, I keep my mouth shut. All I know is, this Thanksgiving is going to SUCK. I plan to wear headphones to drown out the howling.

On the bright side: I'll be so nauseated by the preaching and bashing that I won't be able to eat much... no gaining that Holiday Ten! :D

Gore has no reason to give up because he is going to win. He will win because they will continue to hand recount the votes until he has enough to win. Why else would you recount counties in which Gore won by at least a 2 to 1 margin.

The only way I can see Bush winning is if the FL legislature decides the electors.

TSDibble:

I don't support the popular vote, but still support the Electoral College. My point simply put is the majority of people believe the Electoral College is an anachronism and the popular vote should decide our Presidential election. On that basis, Gore would have been the winner. That is certainly more credible than, say, the winner being the guy who takes the most high growth counties-a truly absurd notion. (See the referenced USA Today link.)

We can't get rid of the Electoral College until we have a reliable voting process. I don't see that happening any time soon.
