Gore urges civil disobedience to coal. How does anyone take this hypocrite seriously? He uses far more power at his mansion than most of the population. Then there are the constant plane trips and Limo rides. The guys a polluting machine. He's pollutes more than 99.99% of the population does. Is he going to engage in civil disobedience himself? I'm betting not.

If you don't like coal, buy solar panels for your house, and get off the grid.

I think there is no denial that global warming exists, but he sure as hell is not helping matters by living in a big ass house and telling everyone else they produce too much CO2.

Hey genius, Gore's house uses 100% green power and he purchases carbon offsets to compensate for the rest of his usage. (cue HURF BLURF CARBON OFFSETS)

Once again, he is a public policy advocate so the policies he pushes have to be ones that are universal. The country doesn't have enough green power for everyone to switch to it, but we can work to make the rest of our power system more green.

Jesus people, use your brains.
 
I can't believe that people fall for the 'carbon credits' BS.

I want to keep my house nice and cool so I go and plant a bunch of trees in the backyard!!! Wooohoo I feel so good about myself now.

Instead of buying carbon credits just use less energy!!! Duh.

Sure... as long as you can explain how doing so would have any immediate effect on stopping the construction new coal fired plants what will contribute to more catastrophic environmental and health hazards.

Then, there's always the fact that he's right about the gravity and magnitude of the danger of building more coal fired plants, including "clean" coal systems that don't include capturing the CO2.

Speaking at the opening plenary session of the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting in New York, Gore said: "If you're a young person looking at the future of this planet and looking at what is being done right now, and not done, I believe we have reached the stage where it is time for civil disobedience to prevent the construction of new coal plants that do not have carbon capture and sequestration."

"What we should do is make a one off investment to switch our energy infrastructure from one that depends on fuel that is dirty, dangerous, destroying the habitability of this planet and rising in price, to a new global energy infrastructure that is based on fuel that is free forever -- the sun, the wind and geothermal. There is a myth that the technology is not available. It is available," he said.

He called on the United States and other countries to install unified national transmission grids and make renewable energy available to all.

"If the coal companies can actually sequester CO2, and safely, then ok," Gore said. "But don't pretend to do it. Don't give us this illusion.

"We have a responsibility to those who come after us and those who are suffering today, to knit together a global commitment to solve this climate crisis and use it as a way to stimulate the economy."

Putting Gore's usage aside, I believe his message is what we should be looking at. If this was some hippie living in the woods, no one would even listen to him. I love how idiots attack him and ignore what he says. I see it here at work. A few people talk shit about people who want to reduce, recycle, and buy green products because they have some sort of irrational hatred for anything that helps the environment. Most likely brought on by listening to too many Right-wing blowhards talk down on "hippies" and environmentalists. Some people are trying to create a better environment for our generation and the next. I don't see the problem.

No. If any line is being crossed, you're the one doing it. Your "individual freedom" is not unlimited, and it carries responsibilities with it. Your rights end where another citizen's begins, and your failure to observe the individual and collective rights of others have consequenses.

Like any other citizen, you are subject to laws that define crimes you may not commit against others. If you do, you are subject to the sanctions defined by those laws.

Polluting our common environment is an assault against every other human being that threatens our very existence on this planet. You have no such "freedom and liberty" to do so.
