I just finished watching akira and i'm like WTF? I understood it ok for most of the movie, but the ending is pure WTF material.

Anyone care to enlighten me?

Yeah, the ending to Akira was pretty weird. But so was the rest of the movie.

I kinda got that he was affected by the experiments that were done to him and the new power got his head.

He seems to get better when he's the blob before he goes in the ball thingy

Anyways, if you don't really understand the ending, you need to pay more attention during the movie, and think. it's pretty deep. I'm trying to find this huge explanation on the movie, but I'm not having any luck.

Sorry, by rebirth of the earth I meant the cleansing of it, not the destruction and "rebirth"(reconstruction) of the physical planet.

It's the rebirth(restart) of everything on it

I agree that the end of Akira was strange. It seem like it was missing something. I recommend you to try Robotech.
