I do not have a plasma, but I did have a nice Panasonic 45lc12 LCD Rear Projection TV, and it was nice, to say the least. Very Nice. I loved it...

But I have to say, if the bulb went out, on my then $1572.00 TV, I would be very unhappy to have to shell out another $300.00. But on the other hand if I planned on keeping the TV for ever, then I would not mind shelling out the money. I think I am leaning towards Plasma my self...

I have been looking at these at Samsclub and Costco.. They are really nice especially the Visio 42" for 1999 unbelievable.

I work at circuit city and we were selling ESA (an offshoot of samsung, I believe) 42inch plasma's for 1350.

The specs on the Costco one are really good. They beat the Circuit city one by a lot the only res not officially supported by the costco one is 1080p which I have not seen on anything less than 2k anywhere. Unless someone knows different. Also the contrast ratio yea I know it doesn't matter but apples to apples the costco one is 5000:1 and most cheap ones I have seen are 3000:1 or less. Just food for thought. I really am seriously considering the ones at Costco and Sams. I am not that much of a Vidiot that I will notice a lot between the namebrand expensive stuff and knock of allmost as good stuff.

LOL - these posts against plasma are pretty funny.

I have a 42" 16:9 Panasonic ED plasma in the bedroom, a 17" 16:9 Dell LCD in the kitchen, and a 133" 16:9 screen projected by an Infocus DLP in my theater room.

Each has it's uses, it's strengths, it's weaknesses. If flat on the wall is what you're looking for, you can't beat a plasma for it's excellent viewing angle, great shadow detail, and relatively good pricing. LCD is getting there, but I fear the shadow detail will never be comparable to plasma (and that's a big deal to me). LCD pricing is also very high still (for a large screen). DLP just isn't slim enough yet.

Front projection is the way to go if you want to control the lighting, and I love DLP over LCD.

Regarding the original post, that does seem like an excellent price (though to be honest I haven't kept up on 50" plasma pricing). The brand, however, would scare me. I'd rather spend a few extra hundred on a solid brand (like Panasonic or Pioneer) than have headaches down the road. If you can save significant cash, it might be worth the gamble.

Generally most posters don't think much of LCD PQ. "Wall hangability" and resistance to burn-in are apparently the only advantages. But IMHO LCD-projection TVs (at least the Sonys) are easily comparable to, and to my eyes even better than, the best Plasmas and DLPs in PQ. The A10 Sonys are breathtaking even placed next to 5K Plasmas getting the same feed. Maybe Sony is doing something with their LCD projection TVs that is unique and different compared to the skinny LCD Tvs.

Just throwing this out here so people don't automatically assume all LCD PQ is sub-par.
