I have researched enough to know I will be buying a plasma so I hope not to get into the plasma vs others discussion in this thread.

I have heard mixed reviews on Akai so I understand your opinion against them.

I would still really like to know if anyone has owned this model.

People keep mentioning an August special on a 50" plasma at Costco. Does anyone know what the price will be?

So DLP is better than LCD and Plasma? I always thought LCD was the way to go?

This'll get out of hand from the fanboys. EAch technology has its benefits. LCD,DLP, and plasma all excell in certain parts of image reproduction but have weaknesses too. My advice is to go to the store and see for your won eyes what you like best.

Guys - I know all the arguments for and against.

I would like opinions on this being a good deal for a plasma - not if there are competing technologies that you like better.

Oh sorry, you should have let us know you didn't plan on watching it. I would have never guessed you were lining up 10 of them on the wall in the club for the awe factor.

I prefer my plasma to DLP, I believe it's "superior in *every* way" as well.

Vag - No idea what you are trying to say - I just wanted opinions on this particular television - you either did not read my 2nd post or just felt like threadcrapping anyway.

What is Vag short for, anyway?

hi joelmclean,

you should wander over to cnet's tv reviews. panasonic has 4 of the top 10 (including #1) reviewed plasmas. granted, it's no consumer reports, but they seem to know what they're doing.

i just ordered the 42" edtv they ranked #1. i'll let you know how it is when i get it.

Thanks esoteric0,

Those reviews are very useful. Did you get the TH-42PD25U/P?
Many sites are saying Panasonic just replaced the TH-42PD25U/P with the TH42PD50U - not sure if there are differences.

Let me know what you think of it.

If not plasma, then what should I wait for? LCD?

and please don't say OLED... I expect to buy a new tv within the next year or two, not 10.

I gotta go check one out.

I been looking for one for a while. I went to CC and was amazed how expensive these were.

2699 sounds great

Stewby: OLED is way too far off. LCD is OK, but really if you want to spend $2699 on a TV, DLP is the way to go. Sure, you might have to sacrafice a foot of wallspace (I think there are some models as skinny as 8 inches) but the image quality cannot be surpassed by LCD, Plasma or LCOS.

That's your opinion. Personally I think Plasma looks better than DLP. I do agree DLP looks better than LCD. But it's all personal preference and opinion. I rather have DLP or LCD front projector but that's for another thread.

OP, I saw the Akai 50" Plasma HDTV at Sams. Looked very nice and thought it was a nice deal for plasma of this size and spec.
