I would. I went down a similar road with the Philips 30" widescreen hdtv last yr on this forum for $600 shipped. I regret that purchase.

I don't think your 30" tv was a LCD. which the olevia is.

No, don't do it. The akai is a cheap RPTV, it doesn't have DVI HDCP connections, which is going to be needed for HD DVD.

Well, I have this tv.
And the picture quality is awesome...
They had it on display next to a Tosh and a Mitz, both were at least 400 to 500 more in price, but the pic was much better with the Akai.

IMO

No point in buying a HDTV now without HDCP compatible connectors. You're just shooting yourself in the foot.

Are you sure about Mitsu's DVI? Here's a snip from the manual:
MonitorLink?/DVI This is a Mitsubishi-exclusive proprietary digital interface for the display of high quality digital video signals from Mitsubishi products such as the HD-5000 HDTV Receiver/Controller. All video signals, both analog and digital are sent digitally to your Mitsubushi TV. Can also be used as a DVI (HDCP) input for other compatible sources. Note: The DVI-HDTV input terminal is compliant with the EIA-861 standard. It is not intended for use with personal computers or devices outputting video signals with computer resolution.
