i fired an AK before. the kick was less than i expected since that thing is all over the place in CS.

Short bursts, nudge down on the second bullet, never release more than three at a time.

Know the strengths and weaknesses of your rifle.

A soldier carrying an AK47 knows they won't be accurate at 200+ yards. But at half that distance or less, the AK47 is accurate enough, and much more powerful.

The durability of the AK47 is undisputed. Check out this guy burning through 300 rounds while his AK47 is literally on fire. The AK47 is also simple to clean, simple to service and machine.

How does that prove durability\reliability if the damn thing catches fire while using it?

are you talking about CS or real life?
i was saying, in real life, an AK doesn't kick as hard as i thought it would.
in CS, it's all over the place.

Works in a sense that you can still fire bullets while burning your hands? Nice durability\reliability there.

I understand what you are saying but in what real world scenario could anybody consider that reliable to have your weapon burst into flames when using it?

I'd also like to know if it was useable after that fire or if the weapon was shot.

You wouldn't want it to, the point isn't that it'll burst into Flames, but that it will continue to work even if it does. Many Weapons will cease to function even before that occurs. AK's bursting into flames is not a big problem as most wouldn't fire enough rounds in such a short period of time to cause it to happen.

Doesn't it also have no automatic-fire mode, only burst-fire? Which I think is bullshit, since removing options is never a good thing.

Well the problem is most troops aren't that highely educated so they just "spray and pray" and shoot off all their ammo way to quick. So they took full auto off the M16 so people actually take the time to aim instead of just shooting wildly. OF course the better soldiers can use full auto on the more "advanced" guns like the M4.

WTF do you know about soldier's training? You are an idiot and your comments are an insult to those of us who have served. The reason why they went to the burst is because sometimes soldiers would panic when fired upon and the magazine would be emptied way too quickly. It's very easy to panic in a firefight, only the most coolest of heads will not want to "spray and pray". You talk like someone who has never been in any armed forces, let alone a real firefight. STFU with your ill-informed comments. You're probably some kid that likes to hang out at ranges and act like a tough guy because he's fired a few rounds. YOU HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE IN COMBAT!

Buy a Saiga and convert it. Teh Win!

You can also get a Saiga 12 gauge and convert it to AK style.

The Saiga's are made @ the same factory as the AK's in Russia. The only difference is cosmetics. Functionally, they are the same gun.

Meh. I wasn't a "highly trained" soldier, and I was probably somewhere near the 80th percentile for rifle shooters. I could do way more damage with an M16/M4.

Your post is laughable at best, the accuracy difference is enormous.

I play on a No Sniper Server. M4 and AK each have their advantages. M4 with Silencer gives Stealth, AK more power. They have about the same end effectiveness in my experience.

I was always partial to the AUG.

The M16 and the AK reflect different military philosophies.

The AK was made for economy in numbers to put a bullet through a man sized target at ranges from 0 to about 200m with excellent reliability. It had to be cheap above all else as they were going to loose a shit ton of them in any major war due to Soviet battle tactics.

The M16 while somewhat less reliable has better ergonomics, uses arguably more effective ammunition, and can reach out and touch someone with relative ease due to it's good sights at more than twice the AK's range. Generally the people firing these are expected to bring them back since military manpower isn't generally considered an expendable resource by the US.

I'd bet that it was usable. All that happened is that the old, dry, wooden handgrips self-ignited from the heat of the barrel. The actual mechanical parts of the firearm did not ignite. Since the AR-15/M-16 grips are high-temperature polymer with metal shielding, they will take much higher temperatures than the AK's grips without catching fire. The illustration, while visually compelling, doesn't really tell us any useful information aside from the fact that the AK's handgrips had been allowed to dry out.

Saiga makes AK47's too, however they are expensive. Classic Arms has a nice Romanian AK with milled receiver for $579.95 or get it with the shooters package (lots of extras) for $629.95. They also have the Saiga 12GA for $599.95.

The rifle pictured on the site at first glance looked milled to me, but after looking closely I would say you are right. It doesn't say in the description. If it is a stamped receiver then these prices aren't that great. I bought a milled Bulgarian AK from classic arms several years ago. Great little rifle.

AFAIK Arsenal (Bulgarian) commercial rifles are the only milled ones out there other than custom runs by some shops. None of the makers out there build AK47s any more. All are the stamped AKM types.

I don't have any milled ones myself 🙁

What about the Russian Saiga AK's, are they milled? I saw one at my local gun shop the other day. I didn't actually handle it, I just asked about the price. They were asking $996.00 for it.

I'm sorry but that video is moronic. I'm a big time advocate of the AK47. I love it's simplicity, ruggedness and reliability, but using that video to somehow demonstrate this gun's reliability is a joke.

What the hell does some redneck popping off 3 additional 100 round drums in an already burning AK47 prove? It may be fun to do, maybe even fun to watch for some, but for the love of god, please don't try to big up that video as some sort of example of how reliable the AK47 is.

But it's on fire!!! Everyone knows that things are better when they're on fire.

All Saigas are stamped AFAIK.

There are VERY few milled AKs out there. In the early 50s the AK-47 switched from being milled to being stamped. The later being named AKM.

What most people call AK47s are really AKMs. True AK47s came in 3 different types before the switch to stamped receivers.

Milled AKs are generally for collection purposes now days.
