AiW X800XT Now, or X1800 Later?

So I've decided I'm going to go with an AGP All in Wonder X800XT for $300 (My budget limit). Now I want it to last a year or so, since I just bought the mobo and don't plan on upgrading it anytime soon to PCI-E. Should I go with this card, or should I wait a while for the prices of the X1800's to go down? Currently I'm using an old ATI 9250 PCI card, which can get the job done on games (but only at their near-bare minimum settings), so I'd like to upgrade soon. If prices will stay at the +$500 level for a few months, then I'll probably get the X800, but do you think it will last me a year or so until I upgrade to a better card?

I'd highly suggest you to get a Radeon X1800 XL, as I own one myself. But that's easy for me to suggest you that, since I am very happy with it.

But what I'd do in your situation is to determine if, yes or no, you're happy with the games you can play, at the settings it supports. Are you "ok" with that ? Could you hold on for a few weeks / months ?

If so, wait until you go PCI-E, and when you do, of course, then get one of the X1800 series.

But you know what ... come to think of it ... at the time you'll go with PCI-E (let's presume it's early 2006, would that be alright ?), then you might encounter new versions of the X1K products, as in ... X1850 ... so maybe you'll go with that, but it might be more expensive.

Meh, anyway ... look mate, it's quite simple I'd say. If you're doing ok with your current set-up, then there is no need to update just so you can hold on for not even one year so you can upgrade again. Well ... that's how I see it, since I myself rarely upgrade, but ... when I do, I do it en masse.

Conclusion: Wait until you can, financially, go with PCI-E.

X800XT AIw won't let you down, I like mine and if you look around you can find one for ~250ish on the forums (bought mine for 225$ last month)

Soon in this case might be Dec, Jan and Feb. I doubt it'll show up before late Jan, Feb. Plus he said he isn't upgrading to PCIe anytime soon in which case his best bet will be to wait for 6800GS AGP.

Yeah, I just built a new PC with an Asus P4P800-E mobo just about a month ago, so it'll probably be more than a year before I upgrade to PCI-E. I'm not too pleased with the video card because it does run very slow, I scored about an 1800 on 3dmark03. I didn't keep up with the X800's when they first came into play, so I have no idea how long it takes for the new gen of cards to lower in price. AGP does seem more expensive than the PCI-e counterparts, so if it'll take more than a couple months to lower to the $300's range, then I'll probably just go with the AiW. So long as it can last me a year or so, then I'll probably upgrade to one of the X1xxx's when they've gone down much more in price.
