AIW 9800 Pro doesn't work properly

I just received a AIW 9800 PRO today and when I install it, everything works fine, until I install the drivers for it. Once I do that and it prompts me to restart, I encounter problems. One problem is just that it will get to the screen where windows XP Pro is loading, and then just restart again and again. A different problem I get is where after the initial restart, the screen has a bad flicker where the left side of the screen is shadowed or doubled or something. I've tried several different drivers, and I get a problem with all of them so far.

Has anyone ever had any problem like this before? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks,
Tom

are you installing the drivers that came on a cd with the card? if so try downloading the new drivers off of ati's site.

I've tried downloading the latest drivers, and also older ones that a friend burnt onto a disk.

I think he's installing on a fresh install of Windows, right? Should be no need for driver cleaner. I talked to him on the phone, and he was saying that he first tried installing w/ the newest ATI drivers (what are they on now, 4.9?).

4.8 iirc. Personally I've had nothing but problems with the latest cat & omega drivers for my 9800p, probably 1/2 due to them being geared toward the x800s and half toward my preference for good games rather than whatever's newest (ie. some very old games, including Call of Duty, which doesn't work too well with *any* 4.whatever driver version). At any rate, really couldn't tell from his post that this was on a fresh Windows install.

yeah it is a fresh windows install, sorry about that. I've tried 4.7, and 4.8, neither seem to work. Anyway i'm gonna get some rest, maybe I can tackle this in the morning, any more help would be appreciated though.

Thanks
