I sent out a bulletin at work looking for players and got mixed requests to make a team of one or the other.

What are the differences with airsoft? i've only ever played paintball

Seems like you'd have to play on the honor system if you get hit?

Screw Airsoft. They don't have the range or the power because of their light weight. Play Paintball.

Unless you are playing speedball, stick to airsoft. I have about 5+ years of PB experience, but over the past couple years I have played airsoft. Airsoft is much more "realistic."

Some of the pros and cons of each:
-Paintballs get VERY VERY VERY expensive while airsoft bbs are extremely cheap
-Although you can get cheap airsoft guns, they are crap. Getting into airsoft can be expensive since you should buy a nice setup
-Paintball can be inexpensive initially comparatively

Another cool thing about airsoft is customization. You can make your gun look like just about any real gun out on the market or battlefield. As far as pain is concerned, airsoft bbs can either hurt more than paintballs, or less. It really depends on what is shooting at you. It is a different pain though and it doesn't leave a welt like paintballs. It is more like a beesting. However, depending on your age, the pain is easy to overcome. When I get shot with a paintball or an airsoft bb now, it really doesn't hurt much.

In my opinion, airsoft is a better team sport since you can organize a team and run it just like a real military squad. Of course you can do this in paintball, but it just feels more authentic to me in airsoft.

One huge downside to airsoft though is that it is huge in the UK, but not so big here in states. Hopefully this will get better, but finding people to play with and fields to play on is much easier with paintball.

Personally, looking like real guns doesn't do much for me in terms of the sport being more "realistic." I've always preferred paintball. I also don't know what JoeFahey is saying about running around like a military squad, I see know difference between the two in being able to do this. For either you pretty much need a team or a group of friends to play with.

Anyone who's ever shot my airsoft guns say they're more accurate than paintball - I haven't had a chance to use a paintball gun to compare, though.

More accurate to like 15 feet. After than, the BB pellet drops and the paintball goes for another 30 feet.

Airsoft is FAR more powerful, accurate, and long range than paintball. You just need heavier 2g BBs, not the cheapo 1.5g or whatever BBs that they sell at Wal-Mart that aren't even perfectly round. Sniper BBs are even heavier at 3g and can be dead accurate at >400 FPS.

Have you ever used a halfway decent airsoft gun? 45 feet is nothing...

I've had a Tokyo Marui VSR10 at ~500fps running .28 gram BBs. The AUG and AR15ish one are both approximately 400fps. Even with my (cheap ~$30) handgun, if you're within 45 feet, you're hosed...double, triple or possibly quadruple that number for any decent gun.

Granted, they're not cheap.. :p

Agreed.

And to ad onto what I said before, in paintball, you go out, run bunker to bunker and shoot each other, but in airsoft, some fields will have full day wars where you take a map and compass and navigate through the woods and assault other squads or teams. The squads are usually built just like a true military squad with possibly a sniper, support gunner, etc. This just isn't possible with paintball. Airsoft simply has more potential for different scenarios.

The problem with airsoft is the guns aren't standardized. In paintball more or less you have equal equipment.

Lead...

Seriously though, some friends were talking paintball at lunch one day and I said "They wouldn't let me on the field, I use permanent markers" :)

Do you expect to be indoors or outdoors?

I must say, splattering the side of a fortress from the treeline in a game of Assault is a lot of fun. :)

In paintball, everyone can see where you got hit, and cleanup is a cinch.

Paintball hurts more. Airsoft feels more realistic. I mean really who wants to play with a bicycle seat?

I have been playing paintball for 20 years. Just like airsoft you can have the scenario games.
My sniper weapon is an SL-][ with "optional" equipment. My close assault is a Pneumatic Mag at 26+ BPS.

Airsoft is more realistic. I've played both, but I prefer paintball.

Man, I really need to get out my stuff and start playing again. :p

Don't post shit like this if you don't know what you are talking about.

I've played both, but I'm pretty much solely an airsoft guy now. If anyone has shot a quality AEG, they will know that the range and accuracy are phenomenal.

A few plusses of airsoft:
1- the ability to shoot throw trees and brush:
This allows you to play in uncleard, more natural and realistic areas

2- COST!!!!
Paintballs are crazy expensive, and gas is a hassle. Airsoft BBs are cheap, and someone said that getting into the sport cannot be done cheaply. Until the past year and a half, the only guns to get would be TM, CA, or one of the other top brands. Those would run you 250+, however, the new chineses clones, especially JG (Jin Gong) are extraordinary for the price, and give me performance better than my CA or TM, for less than half the price. And for a little over 100 dollars, you get everything you need to start with a quality AEG, such as battery, charger, and highcap mag

3- Realism
It's just more realistic, more realistic loadouts, don't need to go much in depth with this

For a little background, I'm an airsoft dealer, and I know a pretty good amount about the sport, and been playing it for 5 years now.
