I've played paintball in the past (just sold my gun) but I'm thinking of switching over to airsoft

As an avid paintball player for the last 5 years, and the owner of $550 worth of gear, I'm going to have to vote airsoft.
I've played with some amazing tournament players, and I've played with their equip too.
I'm also going to bodly say that anyone who voted paintball simply doesn't know any better.

Airsoft:
-better accuracy
-further distance
-cooler guns
-cheaper cheaper cheaper to use (ammo, battery, ect, vs co2/no2 + paint)
-no broken balls in barrel
-you don't sound like a candy machine when you run through the woods.

The big detternt for airsoft, and partially why it hasn't caught on is due to it being illegal. Err, the guns that is. You're purchases will be seized at the boarder.
A cop WILL confiscate it on sight, if you aren't shot first.

Don't get me wrong, I love paintball.. but its the clumsy mans game compared to airsoft.
Scenario: You step one step around the corner of a building.
a)Paintball, you can see a ball coming even @ 300+fps, and you dodge it. fine.
b)Airsoft, you're dead.

Oh and Ih8canada, you should make a trip up here so I can kick your Canadian-dissin'-candy-ass.

I can't see why anyone would choose paintball over airsoft unless they have never played airsoft....

AMCRambler,
Airsoft is sort of like paintball in the basic concept, but it is much more realistic. We use replica guns (look identical to the real thing, including trademarks) that shoot 6mm plastic BBs. The standard AEG (automatic electric gun) can shoot semi- and/or fully auto, and runs on battery packs. There are also gas powered guns that run on a freeon variant (HFC134a and other variants - the same stuff as in those compressed air computer cleaners). The players usually wear camouflage, but sometimes based on the game type it is SWAT gear, mercenary gear, etc. Teams are formed and different scenarios can be played.

The reasons why it is better than paintball, IMHO, are the realism of the guns, the shots hurt less because the BBs are much smaller and lighter, the team aspect and endless variety in playing styles, and most of all, the cost. A bag of 3500 .2g BBs will cost about 20 bucks shipped, where 3500 paintballs can set you back more than 100 bucks (my guess). For more info, go to Airsoft Zone or to look at the cool guns, check out DEN Trinity Shop.

Wow.. never heard of "Airsoft", but when I was in Japan (former military brat) we used to play with BB guns when we were kids. I don't think they are as powerful as the ones used here but I remember the guns looking very lifelike (although plastic)... a couple of the older kids had semi automatic rilfes as well... all i had was a manual hand gun... still pretty cool for a nine year old back then... so do BB guns here in the US use the metal BBs?

Layzee,

Check my post above.....airsoft guns use 6mm plastic BBs, metal isn't allowed on any self-respecting airsoft field or team.

Airsoft looks like fun, and the guns absolutely rule, but I've got one question.... How do you know when you've shot someone? And don't tell me the "honor system" cause that doesn't work in real life. At least with paintball there's no arguing. I'd still rather get into Airsoft I think, as I've yet to buy either type of gun, but I know I want one or the other very soon.

While i've actually never done airsoft, i voted for it since i'm going to try it, i did paintball, and couldn't get into it, airsoft seems more fun(because funner isn't a word!) :D

Not true. I've had 2-3 dozen paintballs smoke me right on the skin and not break. Ohhh those ones are doozies. Hurt more than any other shot.. and what happens? Nothing. Standard rules in my area is that the BALL MUST BREAK to count. Ouch :D

To answer the question.. usually, there are refs, but otherwise.. you listen for a screech of pain? an ummmph. It really does come down to the honor system.

At least with paintball it comes down to how much pain someone can be subjected too..
hehe.

Got 3 guns, F2, AutoMag, and Autococker. Since everything has gone to electonumetic (sp?) I've had enough of the sport.
