Airports on Tuesday Before Thanksgiving

I'm flying out of O'Hare Tuesday night. Now I'm sure it will be a bit more crowded than normal, but I'm not expecting Wednesday type airport lines. Am I correct in this assumption?

Also, they will still have curbside check in, even with increased security, correct?

Thanks. I've never flown around thanksgiving before.

I'm going out of O'Hare Wednesday.

It will of course be busier than normal. They should still be doing curbside, but I would arrive early enough to go through the normal route if need be.

Yeah....they still have Curbside check in. I flew in and out of Ohare back in July. I'd say they're probably still doing construction on parts of the terminal.... I hope it doesn't add to the congestion. Be safe.

Crap that reminds me, I was there last week and they were working on some of the curbside checkin areas outside the terminals.

I'm leaving Evanston at 6, usually its about a 1/2 hour, but I'm giving myself 45 mins, which would get me there an hour and a half before the flight. That should be fine because even if normal check in, I see that you can check in using the E-ticket thing where you don't have to stand in the massive line. I should be fine. (BTW - I'm flying American. They have their own huge terminal at O'Hare, its crazy)

Evanston? I work there...

Ohare should be fine...its a good size airport and things move there. Security might be your hold up, leave the laptop at home, don't wear a belt....

I'v spent more than an hour just to get to security.

1.5 hours is about how much time I allow on a normal day, I'd give it's at least 2. It's better to be early than late...

I am taking a laptop, and I always take my belt off as I go through security 🙂

Historically, Wed is the busiest day of the year. Tuesday will be heavy too. Give yourself plenty of time if you are going to use airport parking as most of the lots will be full for most airports. Security is usually backed up on that week too. Thanksgiving travel starts today.

Due to the increased volume of people flying over Thanksgiving, and the need for additional security, they usually streamline security procedures on those days.

Instead of having the guy pull people over randomly and pat them down/wand-search them, they just have a guy with a Louisville Slugger sit by the line and whack every third person right in the face.

Travel w/ carry on only if possible, and print your tickets out at home the night before. If the flight is too crowded and you can't find room for your carry on, they'll just take it and put it in the luggage at the gate. You've cut the line time in half and you're almost garaunteed to have your luggage not get lost.

i've flown out of lax on a tuesday before thanksgiving before, and it was a LOT better than flying on wednesday for sure.

still allow yourself plenty of time though. the lines weren't as long but there's still quite a few people going through.

Don't know how the OP did, but ATL economy lots are now full. Tuesday's air traffic was reported on the radio as only 10,000 less than today. Today is the busiest day of the year. Must have been fun and still is. ORD is usually a mess, so good times by all 😉

Driving? ATL is in a tornado watch box. Just in time for the T-day rush traffic on I-75, 85, and 20 😉

My wife flew out of O'hare last Thursday, and they had curbside checkin. I would arrive at least 1.5 hours early, though, because they will be busier than normal.

Flying out of ORD tonight on a 9:15p flight. Taking a cab to the airport since I know the lots are going to be full.
I hope the weather holds off, because a delay is not an option since I have a connecting flight in London with only a 2 hour layover.
