The full body scanners that President Obama last night authorized to be rolled out in airports across the country at a cost of over $1 billion dollars not only produce detailed pictures of your genitals, but once inverted some of those images also display your naked body in full living color. It is important to stress that this is a low resolution image. Airport screeners will have access to huge high definition images that, once inverted, will allow them to see every detail of your body.

You sure about that? The newer ones only display an outline that looks nothing like that detailed picture.

So they are deliberately crappifying them; what will they find that a metal detector can't I wonder if they're actively limiting detail.

Are there people people in a conference room gauging at what point a naked person becomes nude or not?

Where do I sign up to be a TSA agent? Hopefully there's a hot people line and a fat people line so I can avoid the latter.

I believe the crotch area and face are automatically blurred by the software. The image will also be viewed by people in a room where they cannot peek out or around the corner and view the face of the person being scanned.

I really don't have much of an issue with this technology.

So theoretially, a female can hide a weapon in her genitals and get on board without detection?

I actually wonder that as well!

Source?

Wired's Danger Room has more information:

The agency says there’s no privacy problem. “Facial features” (and, presumably, other body parts) “are blurred when our officers see the images,” the TSA insists. Nor will the agency “keep, store or transmit images. Once deleted, they are gone forever…. For additional privacy, the officer viewing the image is in a separate room and will never see the passenger, and the officer attending to the passenger will never see the image.”

“These images are friendly enough to post in a preschool. Heck, it could even make the cover of Reader’s Digest and not offend anybody,” the TSA noted on its blog.

As far as I can tell, this is an accurate capture of the image a TSA agent would see using this scanner technology.

Some of the images you guys are linking to are from the first gen older machines from 2008. The image in the original post is the newest generation machine that is going to be installed at airports across America (and other countries in Europe, Canada, Australia, etc.) Except, the images captured are several megapixels.

Sweet, well as long as nobody thinks to hide a bomb in their underwear we'll be good to go.

Good one!

But this has me thinking. Coke smugglers have long has people swallowing condoms full of the drug to pass through customs. A terrorist could do the same, taking a box of exlax immediately before boarding a long international flight. Unless of course the laxative doesn't kick in until the last hour of the flight and no one is allowed to visit the toilet.

Well if that happened, we'd have to get a colonoscopy before boarding an aircraft.

There was an attack on a prominent middle eastern country leader within the last year or two from a terrorist who basically swallowed the bomb.

How soon until all passengers are stripped, searched, and given standard uniforms to ride in the plane? Of course no carry-ons of any sort would be allowed.

They will then switch to surgically implanted explosives.

Or, they could just shove it up their ass:

Taking a trick from the narcotics trade - which has long smuggled drugs in body cavities - Asieri had a pound of high explosives, plus a detonator inserted in his rectum.
