Airhogs Battle Helis

I laugh at some of what passes as toys these days, and laugh even more at some of toys kids seem to really want. A lot of them suck compared to the ones I remember having. Shit is way more high tech now, but just not as cool. Any ways I saw These today and I wish I was 10 and for this Xmas. 2 Of my favorite things I remember as a young kid were Remote Controlled cars and Laser Tag. There were absolutly no RC plains/heli's for any small kids. The idea of flying Helicoptors that have Lasers and you can battle other flying Helicopters with? HOLY SHIT I would have died.

I'm sure the controls suck and they're overall hard to fly, and the end experince it short and less than "wow!" But the concept is the coolest thing I've ever heard of (thinking like a kid) and the big kid in me really wants to try these suckers out.

anyone have kids that got these and care to comment? I'm really hoping to hear how poor they perform and to avoid them, because right now I want to relive watching Airwolf in my living room

I know but a 10 year might would probably be so happy to play with this non stop regardless of the flaws it might have, even if they're serious. Unfortunately as an adult I am much more prone to be turned off by annoying flaws and lack of features where a child will just want to rip into and play any ways.

The 10 year old in you might get pissed off at charging it for 20-30 minutes for 5-7 minutes of flight time
Mine is still fun, though (not one of the battle ones)
I can somewhat control it, most days... it's a real effort to get it to go from one room to another, though.

I have two sitting on top of the living room speaker now, they're not very controllable. The electronic speed control is faulty and causes a severe and sudden loss of power when pulling back on the throttle even slightly past a certain point. When fully charged this makes it impossible to maintain, but at 70% charge or so it can be held in the air fairy reliably, but only that, directing it not so much.

It's about the same size as that Havoc, slightly smaller in fact, but it's controllable(4 channel) and much more stable. It also has a battery almost 10 times the capacity. 5 times heavier.

It's a great toy but not really built for crashing, so probably not for a 10 year old.

That looks sweet! I remember seeing 'big boy' RC planes that have attachable laser tag addons that (if you enabled it) would stall the plane for a second just to know you were hit.

Exactly, I have one of the non battle ones and its not really controlable.

Yea, I got tired of not being able to control these well, so I bought a Honeybee MKIII. Not exactly an in-door flyer, but much nicer and more fun to fly


BTW, OP, that Amazon link is expensive. I think you can get that same Battle Helis for $90 at walmart.

They have toys almost exactly like this on thinkgeek.com for cheaper. I bought a couple of them and they're pretty neat.
