Airflow question

From what I read, Seasonic and Fortron power supplies have fans that blow towards the processor heatsink and not to the back of the case.
So, since AMD recommends that airflow should go from the front of the case to the back of the case, does anyone think this is a good idea? I was thinking of getting an Enermax 651P as suggested by theinquirer.net to get a single 12V rail power supply and also, the `right`kind of airflow. Am I really missing the point here?

I thought those fans suck air from the processor heatsink and blow it out the mesh in the back of the power supply? At least that's my experience with a Thermaltake and a Cooler Master PSU was (both 120 mm fans).

Rally's correct. Where did you read that they blow in towards the CPU?

I read that somewhere on a customer review on newegg (probably for the Fortron 500w).
Plus, if you look at the direction of the fans in the pictures, it looks like they blow air downward (for the Seasonic and Fortron).

The fans suck air in from the case and blow it out from the rear. I have a Seasonic and a Forton and they are no different from every other actively cooled PSU, in that they exhaust air out of the case. The orientation of the fans at the bottom of the PSU might give you the impression that it is exhausting air into the case, when it is actually sucking air into the PSU- the air is subsequently channeled out the back.

Newegg reviews should be taken with a salt lick.

Some cases mount their PSUs upside down (and some cases have a reversable PSU mounting plate that some put together upside down  ), but all standard PSUs take air from inside the case and blow it out the back. In some instances, I'd mount the intake of the PSU away from the CPU heatsink to avoid starving the CPU fan for air - as long as the PSU would still have adequate intake air available.

.bh.

I've bought 2 Fortrons in the past year - FSP300-60PN for my legacy box and AX450-PN for my brother in law's machine. Both 120mm cooled with fan exhausting air. I don't believe I've ever seen a PSU for a PC built with a fan that isn't oriented for exhaust.

Thanks for all the replies, but, I see though that the Fortron and Seasonic 500 watt both look like they don`t have a fan in the rear to blow the air outside. Is this really the case?

I guess I`m just curious at this point. I might save money buy buying a Fortron 500 watt yet I`d really like to get the Enermax 550 watt to get the single rail 36A. That`s very impressive. 🙂
