Aircooling question

I've always had a problem with previous builds in setting up proper airflow in my systems. They always seemed to overheat no matter what i tried.

But my noob question is this, is it better to have a smaller case than a more spacious case to setup a better airflow and lower temps?

Usually larger cases, as they tend to have more fan mounts if nothing else. With narrow cases, I've found that pockets of hot air get trapped under your video card that gets blocked by your GPU, wires, and hard drive from getting to the top to be exhausted. having a wider case or a bottom mounted PSU help with this.

Thanks! I've always had larger full tower cases, and they've all been ridiculously hot. Apparently i must not have had enough fans pushing the air through. I had been wondering if a smaller case would help. Thanks again.

Directing the airflow is very important. Big fans blowing cool air down on the motherboard/GPU is wonderful. It's not necessarily about getting the highest CFM exhaust fans you can find, it's about directing the airflow where you want it, and getting the hot air away from the components first.

If you're considering a new case, I'd recommend the CM 590 Centurion (http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?Item=N82E16811119152) It's not too expensive at $70, well built, and great airflow. Another option would be the Antec 300 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/...29042&Tpk=antec%20300) which is even cheaper at $50, still very good quality, and almost as good airflow

Thanks for the advice! Currently scoping out parts for a new rig and am definitely looking for a new case. Thanks for the suggestions too. I like the CM 590 and the spots for fans on the side panel.

No problemo. I use the Antec 300 right now, and plan on picking up the CM590 for my next build
