Airbus to launch Boeing 7E7 rival

I remember that there was a lot of discussion about the A380<>7E7 and which model was the future
it looks now that Airbus is betting on 2 horses by developing a direct competitor for the dreamliner
leaving the A380 with no competition at all

Airbus planes are scary. Just from flying on them and watching the luggage racks shake during takeoff, landing, and most of the time in between, you can tell they're not all that solid. Then you learn that they actually drill through composite pieces to bolt them to other composite pieces - something that just isn't such a good idea from a materials point of view. I'd pick Boeing as well. 😛

I've flown on both Boeing and Airbus many times. I feel safe on either plane.

I think Boeing has the right approach in trying to reduce fuel costs as the airlines are now extremely sensitive to the price of aviation fuel.

i personally think airbus has awesome planes. they seem nicer because i suppose the ones i've flown on are in general newer than the boeings.

there is nothing fundamentally wrong with drilling composites. i dont actually know airbus' particular fabrication methods but if you have any linkage i would be happy to evaluate

<-- designs composite structures for a living

Boeing to sell up to 50 7E7 aircraft to Japan Airlines

. . . . ."We chose the 7E7 after carefully considering both it and Airbus's aircraft," a JAL spokesman said.

A firm order for 30 planes and options to buy 20 more will be signed next spring with delivery beginning around April 2008. The planes are worth about $120 million each. . . . .
**Film at Eleven**

Boeing has a strong foothold in Japan, and many suppliers from Japanese aerospace companies will be building parts for the 7E7. So it's not that big to hear Japanese companies buying up 7E7's.

Airbus is actually outselling Boeing with their low-cost approach. Boeing considers itself the Mercedes of the skies.
