While this is pretty awesome, it's not news. They've been using these for years. I recall watching it on discovery channel when I was still in college. I believe it was in fact a 747 too.

I know everyone likes to show their e-peen here and say they were way ahead of the game, but this is the first time they've actually got the system to shoot a real missle down, so it IS news.

Yeah it isn't new. The problem is it takes a 747 to house the thing and firing it requires cycling between shots. They have been saying for years they were going to shrink it down in size but I guess not yet.
