Air Purifiers - bad for computers?

Probably not. In fact, maybe your PCs will stay cleaner?

This, why would it be a hazard to have cleaner air?

what if the purifier sucks the entire pc through the filter eh? didnt think of that, did you?

I imagine less dust buildup on the components, but your probably better off just upgrading the filter on your furnace assuming you have one.

if you mean the one that emit negative ions, Ive been using various electrostatic/negative ion air purifiers for years with no issues. the purifiers and computers run 24/7.

Haha! Ditto! 😀

Those who do have air cleaners, do you get considerably less dust buildup in your rooms? My computers are in my room and it takes maybe a couple weeks for the dust to get caked on my desk, under the monitor, on my Xbox, TV, and things like that. It's pretty sickening and I really, really, really hate dusting. Are air cleaners really worth it or are they mumbo jumbo?

depends. with smaller room size units Ive found the following:

electrostatics are great for very small particles like pollen, airborne germs, smoke etc. but they dont do much for regular dust.

regular air filters with paper media are good for dust like the stuff you see built up on desks etc. but unless theyre HEPA rated they dont do pollen, germs and such, plus the paper media is very expensive to replace. some now have permanent washable filters. you also need high air flow (read: noisy) otherwise the dust will settle before having a chance to be drawn into the filter.

negative ion generators make dust, pollen, smoke etc stick to walls and other surfaces near it, so while the air is dust free you have to wipe the dust off the walls and such near the unit.
