I gotta ask...do you people that have air purifiers spontaneously combust into a frenzy of sneezing and runny eyes when you walk outside the pristine confines of your home?

I have no allergy problems and the dust issue in my house really isn't bad. But it's an old house that I renovated and there are nooks and crannies and it can get a bit dusty. I vaccum and dust regularly but I have a new baby in the house and plan on continuing to expand/improve and almost anything you do, even hanging a painting, kicks up dust that I'd rather have filtered than floating around in the sunbeams.

Honeywell used to make these large round ones that were meant for like 800sq/ft, they discontinued them a few years back tho. I found one new on ebay for cheap, it sits in our living room on high all day, and low when we're around. As someone else pointed out, mostly keeps the dust down, and if you have open windows it's pointless to run, but it does help a little. My wife has some mild allergies to cat fur and crap like that, since we've gotten it she hasn't had any issues.

My bad, thought it had been discontinued, but I can find it still. Honeywell 50250, it's the three stackable filter one. No special ionic crap, just pure throughput.

I have one of those I keep around for when we have fires in the local hills and smoke fills the air for weeks. At least I can keep the house clean and air quality decent indoors. It is a HEPA filter and works well.

The only way to clean air is to pass it through a filter. Those ionic breeze units are completely worthless.

I bought mine purely because of the very poor air quality around here when we have those raging wild fires every few years. That's the only time I use it.

I used to sell Filter Queen Vacuums and Defender air filters. Expensive but nice. Not the best, but I ended with one of the air filter when I quit. It worked pretty well.

This is a good place to review air purifiers: http://www.air-purifier-power.com/best-air-purifier-reviews.html

Now I live in a Condo on the foothills of the Ko`olau Mountains near Honolulu...one side of the condo faces the mountains (where the trade winds come from), the other side facing the ocean...the tradewinds come off the ko`olau and right through our place...clean, fresh island air all day long...biest "filter" ever...

Not at all. My allergies are minimal at worst, but when they do hit it's nice to have a place that's guaranteed to be pollen free. Also saves me time that would be spent dusting, and improves air circulation.

My pollen allergies in the past have been quite intense, so I have good experience. I've been basically forced to be inside a house with the AC on(if we had it, which we didn't for quite a few years) and then having to down a lot of benadryl to knock me out because it's horrible.

So, yes. It can go anywhere from just a few seconds outside for a full blown reaction to maybe hours before it sets in. I don't like to risk it if I can avoid it. It's usually why I hate summer the most out of every season. It's great outside, but I am stuck inside because there is nothing I can do out there when I have an allergic reaction. The most incredible itchy eyes, Niagara falls of runny noses that never ends, constant sneezing, and headaches and tiredness from these side-effects... it just adds up to hell. It doesn't sound like much, but it's horrible. It's not like, *itch* ahh, fine. It's like *itch with sandpaper* "WHY WON'T IT STOP; GOD IT'S SO HORRIBLE!!!! D': AHHH, MY EYES HURT I CAN'T SEE AND IT'S AAAAHHHH!!!!" Runny noses that basically flow down your whole face dripping you in a combination of water and snot that are impossible to contain. It's just horrible... can't do anything and it's horribly irritating.

I don't usually break out in rashes and some more severe stuff like some people do though.

Maybe you should see an allergist.
