So here's the thing... I've never had allergies before, I went on antibiotics for cysts for 6 months, and I'm all better, but now I'm allergic to things...

Simple stuff, like dust, high mold and pollen count, and the new cat... so I'm in the market for an Air Filter, and the only thing I've really heard of is the Ionic Breeze thing sharper image sells...

Anyone using air purifiers? Advice is greatly appreciated.

If you've got one or know somebody that does, fill me in on models and opinions!

Still sneezing,

Ian.

My impression is many of those devices are merely gimmicks. Sharp Plasmacluster may be one to look at though.

Hm.. that's what I thought at first because aren't our noses air purifiers to begin with?

Granted I'm sure some actually do work really well, and I'm also sure a lot of them just move air about and claim to collect impurities in it...

go to library or consumerreports website for reviews/comparisons that are based on more than some anecdotal evidence. most people don't buy enough devices to really compare fairly. ionic breeze is hype and marketing, it was worst performing of the lot. don't even think of getting one.

Not sure about brands or what type to get, but do get one. They work. My folks have one of those simple Hunter fan Hepa filter units and even that makes a world of difference. I'm sure with a little research you'll find one well worth it's price.

Good luck.

Well considering this whole sneezing since noon thing only happens rarely, and I'm assuming the new cat is what set it off... poor guy was left here when the neighbors moved, and I'm guessing since he's outside most of the day probably has some impact on this, though I previously had no allergy to cats or anything.

I'm guessing a moderately small air purifier will be suitable considering I'm only home for a few hours a day and to sleep, it doesn't have much "new" air to work on...

Thanks a lot guys, I'll check out those resources too.

HEPA air filters aren't going to do much if the entire room or house air isn't going through the filter, and carpet will trap most particles to give it off at anytime later when someone walk on it.

Fist thing I would do is replace the carpet if there is any with wood, laminate, tiles, or linoleum, then install a whole house air handler into the central AC/heat system with HEPA filter.
