Oh God no... One of my friends works for Air Logistics, she flies these Bell 206 LongRangers down in the gulf.

I haven't been able to reach her on the phone, dear God I hope it wasn't her... No one is answering the phone right now, this is really freaky...

My prayers go out to everyone involved!

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- One person was killed and three were badly burned in a
helicopter crash Thursday at an offshore oil platform in Breton Sound off South
Louisiana, the Coast Guard said.

The crash of the Air Logistics Bell 206-L helicopter was reported about 8:45
a.m. about 20 miles northeast of Venice, which is near the southeast tip of
Louisiana.

The Coast Guard said first reports indicate the helicopter, with four people
aboard, crashed into the generator building of an oil rig then fell into the
water.

"Oil rig workers and good Samaritan boaters rescued three of the helicopter's
crew members and reported that each have severe burns," the Coast Guard said in
a news release. The fourth person was found dead on the rig.

The burn victims were taken first by air to Oschner Hospital in Harahan, then to
West Jefferson Hospital in Marrero.

Larry Sides, a spokesman for Air Logistics, said those aboard included the pilot
and three passengers. He had no names or details about the route of the flight.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration
will investigate, he said.

Yea, I had to cancel a flight today because the winds were just too strong. That massive cold front just mucks everything up.

This is just too scary, I've known her for a few years now and we've flown together before. I helped her celebrate when she got that job, gave her a nearly 50% boost in pay and it was what she wanted to do.

Oh I've got a big knot in my stomach now...

This site has a couple of small photos of the rig involved. The article states that the deceased was male (notification of "his" family) but gives no indication of the identities of the injured. Good luck.

Thanks for the link!

Terrible for those involved, but I'm glad to hear it wasn't her. Still haven't heard back from her, I'm sure they are all quite shook up. Something like this is a big event in such a small community. Horrible, just horrible... :|

No, thankfully she wasn't, just heard back from her.

She knows who was flying however, she's in tears over it...

I wish I was down there to give her a hug and console her, the phone just doesn't cut it!

I'm glad to hear that your friend is OK. I've got a dozen phrases that I'd say to try to make you and her feel better about it, but I've been in the same type of situation and all those phrases that sound so nice really don't help that much.

Yea, words just don't do it...

Being that close doesn't help either, the fact that she flew that helicopter three days ago helps even less. (brings up the "what if" questions, "why not me" questions)

BTW, Thumper is not gonna be happy when she hears about this, one of the companies I was going to apply to work at in April is Air Log.

Tender subject, huh?
