there are three consecutive days of 100+ degree temperatures. I like low electric bills.

I try to abstain from using the AC as long as possible, but even with the windows open on the cooler side of the house and closed on the hot side, it's still 83 in the house today...that's just about AC temps for me. <sweat>

My thermostat sits on 68F year round... I got a digital unit about a year ago and I love it. I never touch he thing. My house has new windows and is only 1,200 s/q so my electric bill is very reasonable. I have electric heat and AC.

Eh? Thats kinda comfy.

Wonder if I should get my car's AC fixed sometime this summer? I sweat out all my hydration driving home from work in the summer.

I can't stand to be indoors at over 75F. If the electric bill is high, I cut corners somewhere else. No way am I going to "tough it out" at home where I'm supposed to be comfortable.

Well fuck...where you live, anything under 100 is probably "comfy," but for me, anything over about 72 is too dammed hot.
85 is fine outside...not inside.

When I lived in the Mojave Desert I had to make do with a swamp cooler.
Nothing worse than moisture in the air at a hundred and twenty degrees.

Anyone ever use a portable unit for single room cooling?

I don't need to AC the whole house, and I am renting and can't setup a full size window unit. I just need to cool the home office during the day and was wondering if it was cheap enough to consider.

Probably not. The model's I've seen have an exhaust house that'll need to be run outside and the cost in electricity won't come cheap.

I've used mine a couple of times thus far this year, mostly just in short stints to get some moisture out of the air. I'm fine as far as the heat goes, but I can't stand going to bed in the damp air.

Humidity means that my AC is on pretty much year round. I think I had it on heat twice this winter. It was a cold one.

I don't mind paying a couple extra bucks a month in order to sleep comfortably.

humidity has a LOT to do with that, though.

I welcome the summer utility bills.
$50 electric + $200 gas

vs

$100 electric + $20 gas.

I'd love to get a new apartment with better appliances and insulation.

AC? man I just turned off the furnace a few days ago. Been getting down to about 62 in the house overnight but picks up to about 68 during the day. I imagine I will not have to put in the window unit till july.
