We leave our AC on 79 when we are home and it is perfectly fine because we aren't little pussies. Ceiling fans are more than adequate and far cheaper to run especially if the house is cooled even a little bit. Our electricity bill last month was $31 and we have a 3000sq ft house.

Cold is a state of low heat.

keep mine b/w 76-78.

78 seems to be the sweet spot, where it will actually shut off.

anything less than that, it runs constantly

I keep mine at 78 to save a bit of money. That seems to be the limit of my comfort zone. I sit around in shorts and a t-shirt though.

Do you people who keep your A/C use to a minimum in the summer to save money do the same thing with the heat in the winter?

cutting off your nose to spite your face??

It's my energy, I pay for it and I intend to use as much as I damn well please.

Translation: I'm a giant douchebag.

Ever been in 100+F heat?

Guess what, happens weeks on end every summer here. You can take my A/C when you pry it from my cold (because I have A/C dammit!) dead hands.

Get a $20 programmable Hunter thermostat from Walmart or if it's a window unit, they make timers for either 110v AC or 220volt AC that are not expensive either. Then you have the house cool when you walk in...

it's not the heat that bothers me as much as the freakin' humidity. it's horrible when you sweat and sweat, but none of it evaporates to cool you. so i crank the AC.

unfortunately, the AC is broke in my truck and it's been sitting out in the sun all day scorching. i'm not looking forward to the ride home.

I actually think my parents have a bunch of extra indoor/outdoor timers lying around I could plug mine into (it's a wall unit). I just have to remember to pick one of those up next time I see them.

Ditto, heat sucks.

What's with this post? Is it some kind of super time-warp?

I keep my A/C between 78-80 in the summer, and 58 in the winter. Winter's much more pleasant :^)

It originally timewarped the OP, and I think a mod may have deleted it and re-posted it much later.

That's way too cold. I spent 3 days out in Palm Springs last month in 110 degree heat and we had the A/C set to 77 degrees most of the time and that felt like stepping into a freezer compared to being outside.

It's all relative which is why people who claim to run the A/C when it's 77F regardless of the humidity are simply lazy and not acclimated and not anything else..

I don't turn ours on until temps outside get into the 80s. Even if it's 78 degrees in our house we get a nice afternoon breeze and we have ceiling fans in most rooms. The house generally stays a 3-4 degrees cooler than it is outside most of the day until the sun gets lower on the horizon around 3PM and later.

Exactly. Something has to cool down my house with my monster rig running all the time. Thing pulls over 550w from the wall.

I would set my A/C unit to 50F if I could. I can't fucking stand the heat. It's 95f outside with a 36% humidity. It's 82f inside my room because the 6pm sun shines right fucking into my window.
