If you can hang a curtain in the hallway, maybe you can hang something like Strip Curtains.

They should work, but, then again, kinda gives your living room a meat locker look.

Make sure you get one with a good thermostat. 9000 BTU is probably going to be a bit overkill for that size of a room....but portable units usually run 8k-12k so you're limited on selection.

For the door, you can do the beads or simply install a curtain rod at the top of the door and hang some fabric there. If you're handy with a needle and thread you can get decorative or go shopping for some door curtains...they make stuff like that if you look for it.

Just hang them and slide a small curtain rod through the bottom to weight it down...sew or clip the ends to keep the rod in there.

I got the unit I linked, and got my price, woot! Installation took a look creativity to get around the window gates but it's all good. ATM, it's operating w/o the curtain in place, which will run into money by cooling the hallway, but it's better than being trapped in the two rooms that have A/C.
