Ain't gonna see the Prince no more

No Lifer

Well, when I just heard the news, I thought they said it was Queen Elizabeth. I googled, turns out it is Prince Philip. Oh well, posting anyway because I like the thread title!

I wonder if this hits the Queen and means she isn't far off? lifelong partners tend to follow each other at this stage of life....

I really hope the queen soldiers through. Don't want to get caught here in the midst of a royal mourning.

He had his faults, but props to him for environmental activism well before it had widespread support. He made good use of the monarchy to advance important causes.

And yes, I can't help but sympathize with the Queen having to go it alone after being with Prince Philip for so long, especially while the pandemic is still keeping people isolated. She's strong, but I'm sure it's not easy.

Wonder if Harry and Meghan will return for the funeral, or just extend the middle finger a bit more.

I didn’t know he was born in Greece.
My dad always called him Phil the Greeek.

I really not looking forward to a fortnight of news filled with phrases like "not without his peculiarities" and "a man of his time" or the classic "always spoke his mind" in a lame way to wash over the fact that he was a bit racist, a bit sexist, generally rude and unpleasant to many people.

I am so dreading the day Lizzie pops her clogs. Firstly we'll be lumbered with King Chuck, and secondly the media will feature talk of nothing else, for weeks. I've spent much of the last 40 years (since Chuck and Di's wedding at least) trying to avoid Royal stories and to pretend they don't exist. If the US could arrange to have some sort of military coup or mass civil disorder that week, just to ensure there's something else featured in the media, it would be appreciated.

RIP philip

i wonder if the queen will be looking for a suitor

if so, i'm on the market

I find myself wondering if there's any constitutional arrangement that actually works well. Our form of Monarchy is completely ridiculous, but I really wouldn't want to imitate the US either. Probably if you have a Presidential head-of-state it needs to be more of a figurehead, to avoid the endless search for the 'single flawless individual who can solve all our problems' that the US active executive President seems to lead to (among all its other problems). I definitely think parliamentary systems work better. Maybe the current German system? I don't really understand the French one.

There was a clip on Twitter of a Fox news host kinda blaming the Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and Oprah interview for his death. These people are beyond deplorable.

This is a time we really needed Trump to change the subject in the media so we don't get bombarded with this royal malarky.

However, he did state he didn't want to cause a lot of halubub in the media about his death.

He was 99 years old and in failing health, and they blamed the black women for his death? Seriously?
