AIMsniff equivalent for Win32?

Ichinisan

Lifer
I have reason to believe that friends of the downstairs tenant stole more than $3000.00 of games and electronics from my upstairs area today.

Please help!

Sorry didn't know what AIMSniff so I googled it and got this...

AimSniff simply gives you the IP of an Aol Instant Messenger user when you make a direct connection with them. All the user needs to do is to make a direct connection with the other user, and once it?s made simply click on the sniff button and you will have their IP. Then disconnect from that direct connection and you may repeat this with other people.

NeoTrace does this.

...Upon further reading, are you sure AIMSniff does that? Btw, I don't know if you are just trying to log what is said on YOUR computer or what? You need to tell us what you want to do.

you can just use netstat once you have a direct connection....

open up a command prompt > type 'netstat'

Well, at least he's working from good information.

No need to shout man, we're trying to help you out.

...Ichinisan you need to tell us what you are trying to do and how your network is set up. Are you trying to log sessions on YOUR computer? AIMutation/DeadAIM does that. I DID find the AIMSniff you are talking about...apparently there are two different pieces of software named AIMSniff.

Are you trying to spy on someone? You need to tell us what exactly you want to do for us to help you out.

It logs your convos between you and them, or with other people they talk to too?

AIM Sniff is supposed to be set up at the main gateway of a network. Any computers that connect through that computer will be logged. Check here for screenshots and the like. It logs their IP, who says what and to whome.

So does trillian, deadAIM, extremeMessgener and countless others... does this do that.... discreetly?

Yes (and no *kind of*). It doesn't say "Hey I'm logging your sessions." so if someone doesn't know that those programs are installed/what they do then they won't know that their discussions are being logged...

I actually spied on my ex gf and found out she was cheating on me w/ my best friend by using this method (DeadAIM). She's the type of user that would notice that her AIM changed cosmetically so I disabled all of the cosmetic changes, but she wouldn't have known what the program does.
